I wonder what it's like to actually be scared by horror movies or a haunted house or something?

I don't think all horror movies have to do with superstitions like ghosts and such.

Or maybe I generalize horror too much. I mean, you're going to be scared when someone comes running at you with a chainsaw, right?

No, not superstitious, but my family does go along with a few of them.

Actually, I find those slashers/splatters less scary
than those monster/ghost things.

I don't believe in ghosts or spirits, but still some of those
movies are enough to make me shit bricks.

Therefore, I must falsify Crenshinibon's theory of
ghost horror movies only being scary to those who
believe in ghosts.

You misunderstood me a bit (or rather, I think I was generalizing too much). Anything that I know isn't real doesn't scare me. A lot of horror flicks are atmospheric, but I unfortunately end up being level-headed even when I'm watching them. I wasn't suggesting that it only affects people who are scared of such things, it appears that I should have clarified. My apologies.

It's not like I'm saying I'm fearless (there are plenty of things capable of it), but something that I strongly believe is irrational never works.

I see.

Unlike you, I am more afraid of irrational things since
I am unable to understand them completely and I do
not expect them. Serial killers do not scare me the same
way as ghosts, since I know what they are and what they
are capable of. A madman with a chainsaw makes me
afraid of my life, unlike ghosts and other supernatural
things that make me afraid of them. Irrational things
flock irrational fear.

Ah, beat me to it, Mams.

I think I'd have to agree, I would probably be more scared of something I didn't know/understand than something I did.

Especially if you don't know if you can kill it.

Yeah, exactly. A guy with a chainsaw is still just a guy (in most cases), so that chainsaw can hurt him just as much. You find a weapon and you stand a chance of killing him. If you have some type of ghost floating around, what are you going to do? Find a priest? Call the Ghostbusters? How many supposed methods are there to fending off a ghost?

Well, I already understood that aspect to be a somewhat unusual portion of my personality, so I'm really not surprised that you guys think differently. It's just that there's this little voice in the back of my head that keeps going "none of it is real. It can't do anything to you," no matter the situation, and I can't really do anything about that 🤣

The same can be said of how I feel about superstition, hence the link.

Everyone knows you use a vacuum cleaner to kill ghosts.
