I'm careful not to let my expectations get too high. Er....I mean I try. Certainly I leash them before we get into bishie league. XD This does not, of course, stop me from enjoyment of certain characters... *coughNakamura YoshikicoughNICESHOULDERScough*

Nope, I don't think so... maybe I'm too old to expect real guys to look and act like shoujo manga bishie? laugh Princes are too high maintenance anyway.

The majority of shoujo heroines actually help to LOWER my expectations. Like I actually see girls who can make decisions in less than a few months and don't fall for rapists! Real life also has these girls who aren't either completely flat loli's or huge G cups (this is more shounen heroines though... shoujo heroines look exactly like the guys but smaller and with longer hair). Weird, but I think I might learn to like them yet!

I'd pretty much given up on finding a great guy before I started reading manga. ...although, now that I think about it, I think it was chick flicks and my romance novels that did it; had manga come first, I probably could blame it.

People who are affected by bishoujo or bishounen should go out more. smile wink grin

But I do wish real life is more hentai-like. wink

laugh Yes, most are indeed like that. Mayu Shinjo comes to mind. I can see how this can lower a guys' expectations.

Interesting...though I don't read shoujo, josei, yaoi and cringe at bishie and the sparkling roses that radiate from them.
Personally I do think there're "perfect guys" out there.I've seen "perfect girls",as in perfect anime girls types in real life.I'd like to point out that Shouko Nakagawa is probably the dream girl for a number of middle aged japanese otaku....So..my point is that they should exist.Just look hard enough and hopefully with a little luck he'll appear. But putting your hopes on getting the "perfect guy" is another thing. biggrin

I might a be a tad cynical, but no one will ever find a perfect girl or boy. They simply don't exist. Likewise, manga or shoujo characters aren't as well. It's plain madness to mix up fiction and reality and will mislead anyone foolish enough to try it.

It's always the same thing, you try to find the "best" solution or the "best" partner but all you get is a trade between what you actually wish for at first and what your eventual significant other wants. There is no "ideal" outcome.

One of the reason I stayed away from romance novels and the likes. I've learn a long time ago that thing doesn't work like in the book or the movies. So there is no way that manga would affect my judgment I am to realist when dealing with love.

Well, in this world there are more girls than boys, so that is already an obstacle to girls with very high standards, also the girls that are aware of the rarity of such guys never leave their side, if they manage to get one.

I have an uncle that fix very well in many of your dream guy descriptions, his looks are way above the average, he has a great personality (not like mine) and is quite the romantic (without being gay), but guess when he got married? He was 19 and she was 21.

A year later they both finished the university and had 2 girls (twins)

I would say my uncle only flaw is that he is a Mormon and yet doesn't support polygamy.

i feel like shoujo lower my expectations in finding any possible not dum as a door knob girls to be friends with.
but it definetely make want a perfect guy. yes, i know there is some out there, but the odds of them being single? not so much
til now i have yet to meet a guy that would declare his love without being ashamed, doing other stupid-but-cute things without caring who sees it, and so on. the list is pretty long!

i guess i just have to try being realistic lol

I strongly agree that hentai is the cure for all. Try it if you haven't. I did find some hentai with close-to-mainstream drawing style, no rape and huge boobs. Some of them are quite funny. I have never been into shoujo romances that much, not even when I was younger. But I do enjoy my hentai! bigrazz Straight, yaoi, shotacon, yuri, orgy - I read them depending on the mood. *Goes and does hentai stuff with boyfriend*

I wouldn't say ruined, I'd say it gives me hope in relationships. I mean, in most manga you see the guy doing something stupid, and in the end, they end up happy together. So I always think 'eventually he'll get his stuff together and man up' bigrazz

So it's the guy that always messes up? embarrassed
