Of course b&w is most popular! That's what we've gotten used to with manga, and I prefer it in general because I think the pure value scheme is best for telling the story. Full color is great for a special page or cover. But I don't want the whole story to be color any more than I want to read a book with multi-colored text. Just too distracting.

Wow, 0% for OEL at the moment. Although I suppose the "No Preference" audience might read it. I can't really get behind OEL because more often than not they're just shallow clones of conventional manga stories. I might just be being too harsh or perhaps I just haven't read a good example of OEL.

Regarding some of the other options, I'm willing to read Manhwa if the story interests me but often they don't. I'm kind of interested in western comics, but getting into the whole world seems too daunting. I've tried reading some Trade Paperbacks which typically have self contained stories, so in those cases there's really no need to worry about what came before and just enjoy the story.

I prefer manga at the moment. Before I started reading manga I read a lot of American comics - superhero comics mostly, but Vertigo and similar stuff as well. There are some good ones out there, but right now I am not really interested in American comics. A lot of it has to do with the fact that in a lot of cases, women aren't taken seriously as an audience, and I found manga really refreshing in that regard. You don't know how nice fanservice can be until you're the kind of fan being serviced. Also, there's such a huge variety out there. I think I cried when I found out about cooking manga. (I wish I was kidding, but I really love to cook and bake, so.)

One of my colleagues reads a lot of graphic novels these days, both from European and American artists, but one thing that bothers me about that genre is its self-consciousness. Often, it feels to me like the artists are trying too hard to proof that comics can be art, too. I know it's a cultural difference, too, in how comics are perceived etc., but one of the things I like about manga is that it never feels to me like the artist has to proof anything about the medium. And - this is connected to last weeks' question - one of the reasons I always hesistated to start reading manga was the fact that it was in black and white. But these days I really prefer black and white, with the occasional colour page treat.

There have been quite a few western comics that I used to read as a kid and I do enjoy reading those still from time to time but now, I mostly prefer manga.

If Manhwa wasn't on the list I probably would've went with Western Comics. I mean I have lots of them. I mean I have a fair amount of Manga too but I just like Comics in general really. I've just been really into the Naver webtoons and stuff lately though so Manhwa wins for me on this pool.

Out of all the idiotic polls this site puts up, this one takes the cake. Did anyone expect any of the other choices besides "no preference" to make it up to even 10%? They really are running out of ideas. This is just stupid. It's obvious what the outcome will be w/out seeing the results. 😔

That's just two but it's all I need to prove that statement wrong.

I can't really decide between the Eastern ones(manga, manhwa, or manhua)...they're all pretty good. No so crazy for Western as they seem so dominated by superhero genres...though there's a few very good exceptions, "The Walking Dead" being one of the best ones. If Western books did it more like that or more slice of life-ish like manga do, I'd be more willing to read them(or perhaps revealed more of the superheroes' everyday lives and not just when they donned their masks).

The only american webcomic i liked was megatokyo but it went to hell when they published their 1st vol, but i think i like many of the web comics from korea, i dont know any webcomic from jap tho. With manhwa we have a problema with the poll many are webcomics... With western comics well... the fact that u have to get 10 diferent magazines to read one plot kind of sucks (DC, marvel) if only they had the same artista but Reading a plot drawn for 10 guys kind of mess my head, OEL is stuff like avatar i bet and if i ever see one i may like it.

I think the result of this manga poll is obvious, but i want to know how many ppl vote for webcomics. It seems webcomics is rising star lately, given there are a lot of webcomics releases, there must be a lot of audience too.
Frankly I have avoided it for quite long time coz I found it hard to follow (lack of detail drawing, i dont like that) but last month I give it a try, and luckily I got a really good one series in my first attempt and now its one of my fav (Noblesse).

I never read OEL before and I dont know where to read it. It's not that i wont give it a try if there is a good recommended one.

Had to choose "No preference" because I like manga, manhwa, and webcomics.

I mostly enjoy all, but Western comics definetely come out on top - especially when 'Western' encompasses American, European and British comics. Manga feels a lot more limited in both themes and genres (although it does go places you won't find elsewhere). I don't like that everything comes from being serialised either, that and the B&W art necessitated by such a format is offputting at times.
