One of the first things in the morning...

Checking Mangaupdates in the morning for new releases has become a part of my everyday routine a while ago and since the latest threads are displayed on the index page I couldn't help but click them sometimes, so I noticed that this little forum here has some kind of a warm and friendly feeling to it... you know...
And so I registered here.
I took interest in manga around a year ago after realising that reading it can be even more fun than just watching anime... It really gives a wider understanding of Japanese visual culture than just watching animated stuff...
Not too many people around me read manga since it requires at least a good understanding of English and my fellow Russians aren't all that keen in learning it I guess... Also, sadly enough, almost no manga can be bought anywhere here (even in Moscow), that's why scanlations are my choice, hence this website has proven itself to be truly useful to me.
Sorry for the huge amount of letters...
Long live Mangaupdates.

Welcome to the forums!
Thank you very much for those kind words! I'm glad you stopped by to say hello. Honestly I agree with what you said about anime versus manga. Generally people I talk to seem to think that since it's not animated, the story is a lot choppier and incomplete in manga. I have to respectfully disagree with that opinion. You not only get the full story, you often times get even more than you would have if you just watched the anime.
Glad we're making a difference! Please hang around!

Gediminas,
this is great
I spent a year in Moscow ( 2004/2005)
and was hoping to learn russian by reading comics. I really looked for russian comics and in 10 months i brought back like 7 small books. I really understand why you go for scanslations. I was really dissapointed, russia has such a great book market with really nice cheap books. Are you from moscow?
Great to have you here, i only started posting a week ago.
hope to see you around,

welcome to this hell hole we like to call home
why back in the day we didn't 'download', we had to swim to japan if we wanted fresh anime and that was only if...

Oh wow, so many replies o_O
bully_jesus: yeah, it's amazing how I can go to the nearest bookshop and find like a thousand cheap paperback detective stories for reading in metro and just three of four friggin' volumes of Ranma 1/2.
And, of course, only Ranma 1/2.
The only other russian-published manga I saw was Pet Shop of Horrors 2... that's it I guess.
And yes, I'm from Moscow.
