Does he actually become captain in the manga, or was that part of the anime completely independent on it? Furthermore, is he actually better or will be better at kendo than Yuuji [i think it's yuuji, it's been a while].

I want to start reading the manga, but the anime wasn't really that good of a show to me, at least the last few episodes of it.

Erm, so far from what I had read, he didn't become captain, since both him and Yuuji don't compete in teams but individually. About his level, it's not simple to tell, since he did better in some tournament but Yuuji wasn't lucky and had to go against someone really strong or something like that 🤣
