So this situation happens a lot in manga. There's the guy/girl who the protagonist has been hanging out with since they were young, and then at an older age (around high school), there's a new guy/girl who shows up that the protagonist becomes interested in. With that, the childhood friend realizes that he/she loves the protagonist while the protagonist is trying to go after the new person; at the same time, the new person is has fallen in love with the protagonist... and then the protagonist later realizes he/she possibly has feelings for the childhood friend.

Now, which love interest do you usually side with? The childhood friend, or the new guy/girl? Of course, there's a lot of manga out there where the main chracter is one of the love interests, the chilchood friend, but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the ones where the main character is the one in the middle. :]

For me, I usually side with the childhood friend because love is a peculiar thing... errrr, I mean it's more dramatic that way when they realize their love for each other later. But at the same time... usually the new person is cooler. Sooo... it depends! 🤣

You are like the dense main character in a shoujo manga.

Well I guess the childhood friend remained "friend" for a reason but in manga I usually side with the character I like the most 😀

It would depend, those mangas that they ALWAYS, well almost ALWAYS choose some bullcrap newbie than their childhood friend even in friendship itself.

in real life though, there are many situations why we would choose the newbie in our life instead of our childhood friend. childhood friends, to me, they're very special, all the more reason why I would choose someone else(not easily like in mangas). But who knows 😉

I don't really mind whichever the main character picks. Though sometimes I wish that the childhood friend gets picked. 🤣

The childhood friend is usually too perfect, so I usually root for the underdog newcomer.

the new guy because the childhood friend is usually really nice ( i am a cold person, i hate nice/ optimistic people >: < ) and i like bad ass people ( like myself ).

It depends on the story. But I lean towards the childhood friend a bit more, although I don't mind the newbie.
