So for the people who actually buy manga like me from time to time do you feel that the manga industry is dying? Once Popular and great companies like Tokyopop are reduced to only letting out few select few of manga every few months. Even popular series like Naruto (which i dont buy) are only released once every 3 months. How long do you think it will be untill North America is cut off from all manga?

Most of this is due to Online Manga resources, but they exist for manga that arn't transulated. But then some get licensed, but people already read them. But the main issue is that the price of manga here is ridiculous. I understand Translating and Publishing fees, but those should not be great concern to have over priced manga. Most manga companies also get money from thoses trinkets like plushies, posters, and so on. But they have been dying because there is this whole recesion we are in. Let us not forget the whole publishers attacking manga sites which lost them some consumers. Most probally just switched sites, but they lost possible future sites. The thing is though that is a non biased opinion... I sort of am ticked off by it, but understand. They also were able to make some people buy more their manga. Now if we look at the manga microeconomy, because of the recession big buisness have plumeted, but some small ones will replace those, BUT it will be difficult to do so with the economic state of the world so far. Either way, it will decrease more, but there should be a hill coming up sooner or later, but it still not confirmed how big it will be... = \ Or maybe not...

I think it's growing, actually. There are new series and volumes every time I go to the bookstore (granted, I only go every couple of months). As for the quality...Well, I wish they would stop focusing on the popular series and popular authors. There are a ton of short, lesser-known manga out there I'd like to buy. And it's probably not their fault (probably stuff like copyright deals, making things official and legal), but they only release a new series half a year or more after it gets popular. >< Strike while the iron's hot! Bahahaha no.
We just went through a recession, so yes things may have taken a small step back, but its going back to normal. In fact, VIZ seems to be doing very well compared to Tokyopop. But that is because Tokyopop is dumb, and Viz is not.

Don't get me started on all the stupid things TP has done. no

Well of course it is. The whole anime/manga industry is plummeting, and has been even before the recession started.

No, but I wish it would, along with the anime industry. I'm sick of these dictators who treat their consumers like crap and refuse to fix the problems in their companies. If the industry is dying, they're killing themselves.

Yeah no seriously. If you're talking about licensed, most of my favourites aren't licensed.
And there are always new manga being made.

But I mean, its not like that if manga flat out dies, it will disappear. New companies will start up ect. Its like movies, movies will never die. Although Avatar was a sad day. laugh

Its not just dying, its fucking dead. Unless you feel like reading One Piece or another super popular Jump series, you are outta luck.

Well, there's a recession going on, if you haven't noticed, and that means less money for everyone. tokyopop flooded the market with garbage. Most new manga is not very good, and what is good is too niche to be big sellers or have such a large backlog of volumes it wouldn't be feasible to license them now. But the mainstays of manga are still rolling out new titles. Dark Horse, Viz, and Tokyopop have still not gone under, and likely won't for some time, and Del Rey and Yen press seem to have their shit together unlike so many other new manga publishers. So despite its high price and peoplle's general lack of moneys , it is doing very well, I'd say.

Lol dead? No way. The only thing is that the demographic is very limited here when compared to Japan's national interest of the industry, i.e. In my local Borders, the manga wall is filled with gothic people hogging manga and not buying a single book.
