This poll was suggested by icassop. Assuming you want to read manga legally (one huge assumption, right?), what would you do if it only appeared in an e-book format?

You can discuss this poll on our forums here:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=30511

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related):
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Does reading manga not directed at your age affect your way of thinking?
Choices:
Yes - votes: 3538 (26.1%)
No - votes: 6310 (46.6%)
Don't know - votes: 3682 (27.2%)
There were 13530 total votes.
The poll ended: December 3rd 2011

Didn't think so

Let's be honest. I would buy some titles, but I would rather wait for the paper version. And 90% of the series I do want to read are not worth buying, so I voted "Keep reading scanlations anyway"

I have an iPad and I bought the only complete, official version of Number Five that was released.

I already own a bookreader, but I'd prefer the paper version of manga anyway, they look much nicer and then you have something "real". Personally I think you should get the e-book for free with the real thing, then it would really be awesome 🙂 Right now, where I live e-books are way too expensive too, I mean, they cost the same as the actual book and they don't even have to print it, completely ridiculous D|

If it's not worth buying for you, then why do you still want to read it? Serious question, because doesn't liking something kind of imply that it's "buy-worthy" for you in some way?

I already own an e-reader, and I'd definitely buy the e-book version if I could, because I'm sick of having manga take up so much space on my bookshelf. I want to put novels and other stuff in there!

I would be happy with an e-book, a certain publisher only rent their stuff out for three days, and you can read it then on their site for maximum 3 days, this is ridiculous expensive, and of course it cost a lot of trouble to pay the necessity amount (the stuff used is troublesome). And off course it isn't scanlated or you can't find anywere else, you can't read more than the first 10 pages.

Not really, I'll watch maken ki anime but the I won't bother buying dvd or blu ray release. I like it but it's just not worth the money unless it's pretty cheap(even so I don't think I'll buy it).

I know manga is in question but just couldn't think of a good example for a manga but I think bleach pretty much fit the bill for me.

Absolutely not, unless you have both infinite money and infinite time (and your time can not possibly be used for anything more attractive, or reading scanlations consumes enough more time than buying would without sufficient qualitative compensation). Buying something costs both of these.

i have an iPad and my dad has a kindle so i have used both and reading with an E-Reader is not nearly as good as paper. IF ebooks were free or at a significantly reduced price i would concider downloading them but i would still rather read it with CDisplay on my laptop.

eReaders with eInk like the kindles need to improve a bit more before I would consider switching over. The quality is decent, but it isn't there yet. Tablets like the iPad aren't any different than reading it on the computer. I'm not about to trade reading it on an LCD with reading it on a smaller LCD. eInk needs to get better resolution so it can catch some of the finer details.

Also, when I tried reading manga on the older kindles, it took forever to transfer it to the device. It was close to a half-hour to transfer a single volume. I could have read the whole thing on paper in that time.

Are programs that open e-book formats that rare?

Sometimes the english publisher doesn't even produce work as good as the scanlations. I mean, some groups put in so much hard work into these free scanlations than a lot of publishers, e.g. chapters are usually not redrawn when SFX are cleaned out. Plus sometimes the translation of the scanlation team is better. I especially would not switch to an English publisher's work if I've been reading it from the start from scanlations. But if it's a new series, I'd consider picking it up as an e-book

What is this 'e-reader' you speak of?
