I use to think it would be really embarrassing to read manga around people who I would see on a regular basis, but once I started my job I just really wanted to be able to read manga during breaks, so I stopped worrying about it. I was surprised to find how many people actually had read manga before or thought it was interesting. There's always going to be people who think it's weird or give me a hard time for it, but anyone whose opinion is worth caring about won't think any less of me because I read manga. I try to read anything with too much fanservice or explicit scenes in it though -- that could understandably put people off.
I don't, but I would if I really wanted to. Depending on content of course.
There's nothing wrong with it but I personally don't read them in public because it doesn't take me long to finish a volume, so I'd rather carry one book to read on the train instead of 3 volumes of manga XD

No, I never read manga in public, or when anyone is nearby.
The reason is two-fold: First, when I'm reading, I really like to be able to concentrate, and if there are people walking past me, it diverts my attention (I'm not very good at ignoring things), and I don't like that. Second, for some weird reason, I don't like it when people know what I'm reading. It really doesn't make much sense, since I don't read anything I'd be ashamed of, but all I know is that I just can't stand it. Kind of silly, huh? It must have something to do with my being an introvert and how I can't stand being conspicuous.
So anyway, I only read manga when nobody's around.

I really like reading manga by the pool side in the summer, other than that i don't usually read manga (or anything else) when i am not at home or in vacation

I agree with the majority; reading manga in public is not something to be embarrassed about at all 😀

(Even though the quote above is from Hamlet, I first saw it in a Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer on YouTube ^o^)

I read manga in public, and welcome the opportunity to evangelize if someone asks me 'what are you reading.' I'll even read yaoi, I don't care, but usually I take a couple volumes of a series I'm trying to catch up on.
It seems to me that the first and last poll responses are the same thing. The first response also implies only reading in secret. Maybe the last response should have been more on the lines of 'I don't read in public.'

well, i didn´t know what Elfen Lied was about back than. I just bought it (somehow they sold it to me even tough it was rated 18+) and read it in the bus when we drove to italy.
but reading normal manga in a normal bus isn´t a problem at all

That happened to me. I was checking out a manga online that had explicit pics in it and some of my friends joke that i read porn now no matter how hard i try to convince them im not lol its funny and i still read in public
My plan was perfect but there was one thing I overlooked, one factor I failed to calculate, he's a dumbass...and there's no accounting for Dumbass....Ness. Agito Wanijima (Air Gear)
