Anyone heard of Genius Party.
It's basically anthology of short animated films from Studio 4°C.
Just saw the first few episodes and thought they were pretty cool.
Anyone else seen it yet?
Opinions, please.
Also, anyone know where I can buy the original Japanese DVD/Blu-Ray disc and O.S.T of Genius Party? I've been like looking for it forever. Found the DVD on Amazon.jp, but still looking for a Blu-Ray version.
Cheerz!!

How? HOW?!
Srsly, how did you manage to watch them? Was there a torrent released I didn't hear about? 😀
I'm dead excited about this, there's a lot of great directorial talent in this (the obviousy Morimoto, and Nicolas de Crecy), and I'm generally just all-out-mad for Studio 4c.
I d/l'd the theme song single for the film a good while back, by Nichika, if you're interested I can upload it for ya.

it's on baka updates tho they havn't released them all
My favorite was Shanghai Dragon. It was really cool and seemed like it woulda have developed into and aw-sum Manga or Anime. The rest that i was were...ok...but the biggest dissapointment was Baby Blue. Still can't believe i waited so long to see it...Shinichiro Watanabe...definitly let me way down...

I just saw Baby Blue and I didn't see anything to dislike.... Were you disappointed because it wasn't 'typical' Watanabe?
I thought it was beautiful.... the soundtrack was gorgeous (especially the first half).... Yeah, it was a bit sad in the end.... but I never once got the impression that it was trying too hard (like 5cm per Second, for example).
Just my 2 cents.

No offense Keel, but if you were expecting something like Cowboy or Samurai, then you truly don't know Shinchiro Watanabe. People can get sick of doing a same style over an extended period, you know. I bet you'd like Baby Blue if it was by Makoto Shinkai.
I got around to watching Opening, by Atsuko Fukushima yesterday. There isn't any real plot to begin with, so I'll just say that the music and animation was fantastic. Atsuko is one of my favourite animation designers, and this did not disappoint.
Despite the generally negative reviews Limit Cycle recieved, I still wanna' see it badly. I hope they sub it soon...

Here, here..... Opening puts most big-budget music video's to shame... I loved the minimal-tech soundtrack... Kaoru Inoue is one of the Tokyo's more accomplished tech/trance producers..... Thanx for the soundtrack, Highway-STAR.
If you wanna see more 4C music videos, do a search for Ken Ishii (Kaoru's mentor and Yoko Kanno's good mate) on Youtube.

Yeah, I'd like to listen to more Kaoru Inoue stuff. And Ken Ishii is one of my favourite composers as well. Studio 4c's video for EXTRA is eye-poppingly mad.
I'm also suprised to see two non-Japanese electronica artists in on Genius Party, namely Fennesz (who I now adore) and Juno Reactor (who also done a bit for The Animatrix's score). I heard Koji Morimoto is a huge fan of electronica, trance and dance music.

see it wasnt that i was looking for action or anything to that extent...i was looking forward to his ability to mesh concepts and genre and make it into something else. Like samurai's and hip hop or jazz cowboys and boutny hunters. Baby Blue was ok it just wasn't as phenominal as i was expecting it to be. I must admit that the sound selection for it was groovey tho

Juno Reactor may be Brits, but they hold many residencies at Japanese clubs. They sell lots of records there.... I like how their style has mellowed down recently.
Yeah, Morimoto is a major clubber. I used to be a DJ... and while I was working in Tokyo, a mate pointed him out in Ageha (couldn't really make out what he looked like, though.).... He's currently a frequent guest at Womb, the greatest club in the world, IMHO (it's one of those places you have to see to believe).
This is just a guess, but I think you and I are probably the only 2 people here that listen to Ken Ishii. 😐

Does looking him up on YouTube count. 🤣 I saw the 1st, 6th and 7th short-movie of Genius Party and I enjoyed them all.

Whoa, you were in the same room as Morimoto? Damn! 😀
