Whoooa! Just finished the last chapter of Sakura Gari, and man, normally I don't like tragedy manga, but this one I just couldn't resist. 😛
Although I feel sad at the ending, I also couldnt help trying to hope for the better lol.
What are your thoughts on the ending?

I've just read chapter 8 and 9 of Sakura Gari. What a sad ending! 🙁
Why can't they be together 😕
Anyway, why the Latest Release(s) of SG in this forum is still chapter 7?

It was so sad...
Felt somewhat rushed, but I guess it's also good she didn't drag it.
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

I didn't really understand the ending 😕

I finished the last chapter a few minutes ago. The ending was beautiful yet sad. I don't like tragedys but the ending of Sakura Gari is nice because you can still hope for a nice reunion sometime later in their lives ^^

The ending was disappointing. After all the detail put into a wonderful story I thought a page was missing with the abrupt ending. To have the issue with the butler be the conclusion was really unsatisfying, so left field and distracting.

I didn't want it to end like that, like @annique said, it was a bit unsatisfying, however, though it was a sad ending, I think that the manga ended at a good length, considering the chapters were relatively long!

I cried. I can't believe I cried.
You think they had it all, but then... ugh, I could only mutter the f-word right at the end, and the tears slipped out of my eyes.
But as a tragedy, sad endings are expected, aren't they?

Probably her only best work I've ever read.
The ending did make me cry though. I wasn't sobbing, but a tear or two did slip out. It was a rather ambiguous ending, but nonetheless satisfactory. I found it fitting for this series in general. I'm going to assume that the author's intention was to leave it up to the readers as to what really happened, or might have.
She REALLY needs to write more yaoi though. It seems to bring out her best while shoujo only brings out her worst.

Just read the entire thing in one sitting, and here are my thoughts.
Personally, I thought it was a great ending, very Japanese. I didn't full out cry, but I did have tears in my eyes. To me this was less of a tragedy, and more of a drama. Despite everything, it was quite hopeful in the end.
Still, the fangirl in me wants an omake
where Masataka becomes a teacher and meets up again with Souma in a few years, and they live happily ever after. And I'm glad the story was left open-ended enough for that possibility.

I've decided that he lived.
And they will meet again.
Otherwise, I just might start bawling.

I think Souma lived. The dialogue towards the end kept on speaking about living and even when he was supposed to die he was still speaking about living. 😐 It was an okay ending, the open ending isn't as bad as a completely sad ending.
Given that, I wish there were more yaoi by Watase Yuu. I dislike her whiny shoujo girls but love her men to bits @_@

Just finished reading 8 and 9.
I believe Souma will live. 🙂 Just like the sakura tree remember?
Souma stabbed and slashed at it many times before and it still grew to be very beautiful.
I think that was the symbolism at the end.
I hope Yuu Watase continues this someday...
Great story, great art, great character development.
Simply one of the very best manga i've ever read! 😀

I didnt cry so much on the ending the way id cry on other tragedy themed mangas. but its still a beautiful story. But I am seriously not for open ending or endings such as this. its not the manga, its just me. i like stories that tell you what happened in the end straight on. id like to see it straight from the mangakas point of view, since its their story.
i believe he *died in the end.. and his spirit lived on with the tree. sad conclusion, i know.. but still on the other hand.. i still like to believe he did survive and they'll meet even though they;ll have their own family and all. its still sad for me both ways and yet beautiful.
EDIT: theres a Mangaka's Q&A at the end, when she was asked whether what's his name died. She said things practically wrote themselves, in other words, she just follow the characters' footsteps on what they would do in those kinda scenarios and so on. She didn't confirm whether he died or not, but her assistants said that they believed in him. And to her, it is a happy ending. And the surviving characters get saved in the end one way or another. And in chapter, Souma asked the other guy on "why do the sakura blossom, even after it was cut?". Which led him to the SAkura tree after he was stabbed, not with the impression of death though, but with the image of a lifeforce. To trigger the scene where Souma decides to live on(if he was still as miserable as before, he wouldn't fight for his life and by that scene, he might have just given up on life after he was stabbed), because him and that other guy faced each other with nothing to hide.
I just practically copied that off from the page, well.. from my POV.
