Hey everyone!

Basically, the title says it all. Please don't take this as an offense against LGBTQA+ or the like, I just liked the concept of a seemingly pure homosexual person realizing they were bi/straight for one person that they truly like/love. As for genre, anything goes as long as there are romantic feelings involved.

I remember that's the plot to Haru yo, Koi and Otaku in 2200 A.D, but I can't think of any other series that actually deals with the leads wanting to escape from the gay. AFAIK, even series like Vandread and Blue Drop never really dealt extensively with problems of people being against same-sex relations in societies where it's perfectly normal and encouraged.

An alarming number of queer romances in various genres of manga, especially older manga, end with at least one of the lovers dismissing the queer relationship as a youthful fling and then marrying someone of the opposite gender, but I wouldn't exactly list those here as romance happy endings. The long ugly history of that kind of thing makes it really hard to successfully write a "suddenly straight/bisexual" happy ending that doesn't also come off as dismissing the queer romance(s) as lesser-than or not real.

That's because, going by everything I've seen, gay romances exist more for the reason of lust and so-called "freedom" rather than serving any actual interest in seeking a loving partner to live, grow old, and die with. And, it's really no different than all those other stories about the character running off to live a life of endless drink and sex; only to then "settle down" years later with their real partner who had nothing to do with that previous life. In the both cases, there really was no lasting affection as it only served as a brief fling until the person grew bored, but the latter case doesn't create any amount of controversy or angst (And people don't consider it a "forbidden love" worth getting their knickers in a knot over, anymore, when people criticize it) because it's breaking no real taboos (Aside from the long dead concepts of monogamy and abstinence).

And, with all that being said, I do have to agree with you that there's nothing "happy" about it. Unless the person realizes how all the sex and lack of restraint really didn't give them the life they wanted and then proceed forward in attempt to better themselves, they're just going to end up being those eternally depressed people who have a mid-life crisis and are completely unable to move beyond remembering their "Glory days".
