here is the actual press conference http://e3.g4tv.com/e32008/press_conf_detail.aspx?pressconfere nce_key=1
the announcement is around 90:00

anyway this is definitely to make money but it works out for a lot of fans who dont have a ps3. im sure the quality wont be affected that bad and to people saying they will "dumb it down" just cause its on the xbox is just bs. and they didnt switch to xbox cause its better graphics its just that cross platform they will make more money. kinda sucks they had the cameras go back for the trailer dead

I was wondering what that noise I heard was... It was the collective anguished screams of PS3 fanboys worldwide. bigrazz

Personally I don't care, I don't even play console games anymore and I don't see the point in getting all worked up over which is better. It's not like it's going exclusive for 360, so it doesn't affect PS3 owners in any way aside from giving them one less thing to brag about to 360 owners.

I can see how it is a big blow for Sony, though. Square and the Final Fantasy series' exclusivity, starting from VII, played a huge role in making the Playstation a success. I bought the PS1 specifically to play FF VII and I bet there were a number of people considering doing the same with the PS3 if FF XIII had been an exclusive.

When it's all said and done though, it's a business and they want to make as much profit as possible. Who can blame them for bringing it the most popular (non-wii) console? I'm sure Microsoft gave them a nice chunk of change and they'll sell a helluva lot more games now.

so dissapointing that they gotta use a numbered game to pull a stunt like this. aside from 11, every numbered game was the epitome of quality of games in their respective eras.with talks of how much potential the ps3 has and how insane MGS4 was i was rele anticipating them to follow its example.guess they just satisfied with tapping the full potential of the xbox. "10 years of 13" at this rate, i don't see anybody touching MGS4 for a long time.

I don't think Square-Enix really had much choice though. Guess they didn't think the profit would compensate all their investments in FFXIII if they just sold it on the PS3. Therefore going multi-platform plus receiving an added bonus from Microsoft. @_@

Anyways, don't really care, as long as the game's epic.

Well my the quaking in my soul has quelled once I realized that Versus won't be out for 360. I can live with that. Now I just need to find a PS3 with backwards compatibility and I'll be a happy man.

It really doesn't matter, does it?

The Xbox really wasn't made for RPG's.

I say this with experience, too. I own both Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. Playing RPG's on it just feels weird. The controller is better suited for Racing games and FPS/TPS games.

Even though Square Enix announced Final Fantasy XIII for Xbox 360, its mostly for North America and Europe, since its not even releasing in very many other countries.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still PS3 Exclusive, too. I'm going to get both for the PS3, since I have always loved Sony's system for its RPG's.

That, and God of War III was announced at E3 with a release window. So, yeah.

Plus, they announced Resident Evil 5's release date, too. >_>

Now, if they would announce release dates for both Street Fighter IV and World of Warcraft: Wrath of The Lich King (Come to me, Titan's Grip!), I'd be happy. biggrin

Oh, and for the record, everyone freaking out about this whole FFXIII on another console needs to calm down. They've been releasing stuff for Nintendo systems for years, and nobody has freaked out like this. >_>

Oh, and crow_kun, Square has stated they havn't even begin development for the Xbox 360 version, yet. They're still working on the PS3 version by it self.

And yeah, all MS did was confirm the rumored release date for Gears of War 2, and announce the release date for Fable 2. Thats not too much.

I hope you caught my sarcasm there.

My first reaction was: another fake rumor.
My second reaction was: W.T.F. Did Square-enix lose their minds?
My third reaction is: Oooookay...

They did this most likely to broaden their range of customers, but seeing as Xbox seems to have the upper hand right now, this was a very bad move for PS3. Plus they broke the PS tradition, which makes me a bit sad, but eh.

Too lazy to say more, as I don't really care, as long as I get to play it.

I remember back in the day when Final Fantasy was a nintendo game. These things happen and its good that they went multi system, allows more people to experience the game without paying shitloads of money.

I can't believe they are actually releasing it for xbox. well, might as well put the rest of the ff games there too eyes

I shouldn't really care about it though, since I have both the xbox 360 and ps3

This is probably a dead topic and I feel like an ass posting on it... but, out of curiosity, does anyone know how much data 360 and PS3 games take? (genuine question without sarcasm -- I am not attacking 360's discs).

As many alreadly know, 360 uses DVD-9 (Dual Layer) with about 8.7 GB data space while PS3 uses Blu-Ray with about 25 GB for a single layer. Does anyone know how much data on the Blu-Ray (and the DVD-9) do game developers actually use? I have no clue.

I only bring this up because I have read on other forums of PS3 fans thumbing 360 users about disc space but at the same time I haven't heard that its a major debated issue outside of forums and threads dedicated to trashing either the the 360 or the PS3. I'm just wondering if this is even an issue. It probably isn't -- If there are any problems with disc space for FFXIII then the 360 version may have more discs than the PS3 (if they even need more than one disc for the PS3 version). Also, does anyone know if there a game using a Dual Layer Blu-Ray disc? I've been looking this up but haven't found a definitive anwser.

Again, I apologize for posting on a (likely) dead topic --- I haven't checked the forums in days.

Well, Metal gear solid must've taken at least 24 GB, due to the fact that every chapter required installation cause of all the in game movies.

You bring up an important point that the industry has also taken notice of.

In this case, Square Enix has stated that since the game will be ported to the 360, this will give them time to further optimize graphics to save more space on the disc. Even with this statement, they didn't deny or confirm whether it would be multiple discs or not. It just might be.
