Cuts in Boxing o-O ?
Okay so I'm not all that familiar with boxing (scratch that, only things I know about boxing are the things I've learned in HnI) and right now I'm reading through the part where Ippo is fighting Take, the 30 year w/ lots of experience (200 more chapters till I'm up to date -eyes sparkle-) and I suddenly realized that I had no idea how boxers could get cuts when they're gloves are round, smooth etc. I'm prolly just being hopelessly ignorant here but... Anyone wanna explain?

The impact of the punch causes the skin to tear. Which is why the cutman applies petroleum jelly to areas that tear easily, it makes the skin more elastic and slippery to aid in the prevention of cuts.

Impact splits, laces, etc.
If you've ever got popped in the mouth with a strong right, you'd understand why people would get cuts.

Well hot sticky face and a leather tend to stick. There's a high chance of ripping the skin open with a high speed punch.

In fact, boxers seem to get cut more often in real life than they do in manga. And if 10 rounds of punches do that to your face, imagine what it does to the inside of your head. Boxing is a dangerous, barbaric sport.
But Ippo is good, so keep reading.
