Okay, I don't know where to put my rant so I post it here.

So basically, I read similar topics again and again in the "I'm looking" section in MU. Things like possessive lovers, friends turned to lover, etc... etc...

what I'm bothered about is same person can post the same topic again and again. I don't mind if the request is something specific like:
friend turned lover and one of the protagonists has to be in the university or that they have student-teacher relationship (in which case can be searched through a combination of "friend turned lover" and "student-teacher" categories).

But usually it's something generic "I want an obsessive / possessive couple in which they felt jealous over the slightest things." And the second topic they posted will be: I like the couple to be jealous and can't be separated from each other. In my opinion these sound the same 😕

First question+rant: Is there a rule that prohibit repetition? Or maybe a warning?
And note that these people don't seem to care to use search category since several people (me included) actually suggest there is a category search in this forum (and like they care since they make the same topic again after getting the suggestions). I'm totally fine with newbie that don't know the features of this great site but for older users that received suggestions to use the fabulous category search 😕 and refused to do so 😲

Second question, is it only me who feel bothered or is this due to my hormonal cycle? 😔

Join the club!
I've been annoyed by it for years now!
Generally, repeat threads get locked if reported/mod deems it a repeat thread.

There are a lot of lazy people on the forums. They'd rather ask the same questions over and over again and get spoon-fed rather than putting in the effort to look for it themselves...which usually takes less time and effort.
Oh, and there are a lot of forgetful people asking the same questions too.

There should be one big thread that's named "I forgot this manga" in the I'm Looking For section, working like the Random Questions thread or something. The amount of times I see a new thread asking for help in remembering a manga, it might help in having them all in one place? shrugs

That won't work until and unless the question and the answer posts are linked, and it will be helpful only and only if someone looks through the entire topic(which means almost never).

I'm okay with the I forgot this manga threads if they're being specifics. What bothers me as said, threads with repeat topics and sometimes with the slightest description like the one I read today: passionate love but for some reasons they can't be together. Hm... I think I've read at least two or three threads with that same request and within 2 months the most or maybe it's 1 month?

If you do check the forum occasionally, it should come as a piece of cake or they don't bother to read other people's request but just keep on demanding from people?

For me it's called selfish. Hah... it does sound a bit extreme but um... I don't know. I think it should be give and take meaning people making threads contribute to other people's threads. But that's just me. I like to at least try to be helpful. And related to the topic, these people should know if only they can read. That's not a hard request I think

Sure, sometimes you can easily search and find what you're looking for, but some people like personalised responses and like to hear about personal experiences with the manga that is being recommended.

As someone who answers a lot of threads in the I'm Looking For forum, I totally understand where you're coming from. I swear half the people who post threads there have never realised what the category tags are for, or that there's a forum search, and maybe, just maybe, in all the years this site has been active, somebody might have asked the same thing before.

It might just be my imagination but lately it seems there are a lot of new members in the I'm Looking For forums who don't bother to acquaint themselves with the site's rules or explore any of its functions, and they often make repetitive or vague requests. There seemed to be a recent spate of people asking for downloads, which obviously is against the rules, or for somebody to scanlate a certain manga. I remember one, after having her thread locked for asking where to find scanlations of a certain manga (locked by mod saying "no asking for downloads"), proceeded to make a new thread asking for the same thing except on a read manga online site... Major facepalm.

However, I think the I'm Looking For forum is really useful and that the mods do a good job of locking the stupidest threads quickly. In the end, there are morons all over the internet and it's unavoidable that there are a few here, but I think MU actually has a pretty good moron to sane people ratio in comparison to other sites.

Agree! Got dizzy looking same topics again and again in "I'm looking for"...
They should put in the rules, to use the search forums first before making a new thread or search within categories...
and way a lot easier if they are googling it. (example: mangaupdates possesive lover)

We need a system that automatically finds the manga for you
by some kind of tags that us, the members give them. Far more
advanced than search, so don't give me that,
because it wouldn't need to be limited to tags,
but to some form of a plot graph and character descriptions would be
included. Would clean the looking for section totally.

And the ability to hide threads since I am kind of tired of looking
at the teen relationship threads 3 years in a row at the top of the
new posts list.

definitely
it's okay if one is looking for personalized recs but do try to use a simple category first before even crowd the 'I'm looking for' section. Or if asking about repeat topic, do bump older thread for more. If they already read everything in the search category, do make a topic saying that you're looking for more so ppl won't even waste their time doing the search category for the TO
