and yeah thats your opinion but there are people here saying they dont mind leggings as long as they're not see-through

They're not pants, that's not an opinion it's a fact.
My opinion is that I don't want to see people's butt when walking around, because that's gross and most of the time, unsightly.

As for the differences with skinny jeans, mogiks explained it really well, and shows even more why they aren't meant to be worn that way. If you don't want to understand that, there's not much more we can do for you.

Wearing tights or leggins as pants might not exactly be the traditional thing to do, but then just some decades ago women wearing pants was not the traditional thing to do.
What I'm trying to say is, we right now, being strongly influenced by contemporary fashion, might not like this trend at all, but future generations might very much appreciate the added liberty of being able to wear tights as pants much like women these days appreciate wearing pants.
After all if fashion had to stay traditional forever, why, we'd probably all be wearing untreated bear hides.

Depends, if you have fat or skinny legs like most european/north american girls, no, it's not appropriate. (Example: The girls in CH video.)

If you have nice legs, totally appropriate.

Here, the girls who complain about other girls wearing tights are just butthurt because they look ugly on tights.

The ones who simply don't like tights don't care if other girls are wearing them or not.

PS: If you don't have the intelligence necessary to wear a panty that won't show through, not appropriate.

You guys (and girls) do know that tights have been worn as pants throughout history, right? Even by men as part of military uniforms. Look it up. You can't suddenly decide that they aren't pants just because they are back in fashion and you don't like it.

Tights --> No
Leggings --> Depends, but I'd prefer it if people cover up their crotch area, please

The majority who follow this trend - that I've come across - tend to be overweight though. However, I don't think it's a case of who commits to such a fashion, but more of a debate on whether the fashion itself is appropriate. Regardless of what your legs may look like, I'm not a fan of camel toes or anything riding into your butt cracks. I once saw a girl with not-so-opaque tights/leggings on and unfortunately I could see a hint of her pale undies.

Plus, doesn't it get a little chilly?

If worn under a really long t-shirt or sweater they're fine with me. But with a short shirt or sweater, it's kinda awkward looking ^^;

Indeed, the classic definition of pants is some article of clothing that covers both legs seperately and goes up to the waist. But pants technology (yes, pants technology) has one upped itself since pants were originally defined. When I think of pants they have to either button or zip up in some way, or at the least some way to cinch them up. Essentially, they need a fly to be pants.

EDIT: had to add, this is the fastest I've ever gotten to 900 posts on a forum. 🙂

Well technically, tights are supposed to be worn under things - skirts, dresses, pants, and hell even shorts. They're not really made to be worn without anything because of the material they're made out of them is usually pretty thin. Now leggings, you could get away with wearing those alone, but usually just when you're planning to work out - like tights they should be worn with something - though you could pull off a long tunic type of shirt with them though.

But, personally, I could careless what others may wear. If it's something you like and you're comfortable in - more power to you. I'm not going to judge or comment on someone's choice of style because it's not like I'm some fashion guru. I could care less what's in and what not. I personally wear what I like, what I'm comfortable in, and what looks good on me. There's things I wear I'm sure I get odd looks about - usually my thigh high socks. I get a lot of weird looks because of those. But I love wearing them with skirts, shorts, or short dresses. And so I do and anyone that has a problem with it can flip off.

And for those of you that don't know the different between leggings and tights - leggings stop at the ankle while tights cover the feet (like pantyhose).

And for the person that mentioned they have been worn throughout history - true. But, as time has gone one, there have been changes made. Tights are now, no longer made with such thick material. The tights of history are more closely related to today's leggings - only difference now is that they stop at the ankle - than today's tights.
