Alright, y'all. If you couldn't tell from the title, I'm looking for the best animes out there. You know, the ones that don't even have a manga, or if they do they're better than it. Ones that are masterful in themselves, and feel completely complete.

I don't really watch a lot of anime because most of the time it feels shallow & incomplete. So, I'm trying to remedy that.

Please and Thank you!
Examples/ones I've already seen;
Fullmetal Alchemist (& FMA: Brotherhood)
Code Geass
Death Note
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Inyuasha
Major
Blood+
Mushi
Moribito: Guardian of the Sacred Spirit

Following the action-adventure kind of genre:
Detective Conan (not complete yet, but it's good)
Gosick
(I don't really like it as much but maybe you could try the sequel of A:TLA)-- the Legend of Korra
Ao no Exorcist

I really hate responding to requests for the "best" ones, because everyone decides independently (and differently)...

*note: all these are romances or contain at least a romantic subplot*

but I'll give you some anyway...
Shakugan no Shana action - supernatural - romance
the first season has a bit trouble with graphics
the second one has a bit trouble with plot
but you'll need it for the third, and that one is epic (but basicly only consists of cliffhangers, so you should have a bit of time...)
decent romance, decent comedy, good action, likable characters

Spice and Wolf fantasy - romance - slice-of-life
not much of a description needed, one should know this one...
I don't know where the manga stands now but I'd say novel>anime>manga
minor action, decent comedy, good romance, very detailed character portraits

Hanasaku Iroha slice-of-life - comedy - romance
really interesting, sweet and funny. I don't know if this one is well-known, but for a slice-of-life it's precious.
no action, decent romance, good comedy, likable characters

I could add some more, but these would be the better ones...

Mononoke: After the first few minutes you'll love the art style.

Natsume Yuujinchou (I personally prefer the manga version, but the anime seasons are masterpieces as well which is why I'll include it (this is coming from someone who usually avoids anime adaptions at all costs))

Mawaru Penguindrum

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Check out its new Rebuild movies as well.

Code Geass is legit.

Death Note was _not_ better than the manga. The ending of the anime was crap in comparison.
Fullmetal Alchemist had some cool stuff, but Brotherhood was a carbon copy of the manga, and therefore it's just weird to call it "better".

Inuyasha was a stretched-out version of the first 400 chapters of the manga. The manga actually had a real ending.

Avatar was not even an anime.

Because of all of this information (except the first sentence of this post), I think your opinions are stupid.

I agree with this fully, since I can already see some on here I didn't think were all that great.

Because of that, I will recommend only one,Saikano. The Anime and Manga were both beautiful, even though they were slightly different.

I suggest watching the first two episodes of any of these series to get a bit of the feel for them and see if it's something you can watch.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. biggrin And I know "best" is subjective; however, I'm hopeful that someone elses best will be best for me as well. Even if they're not, hopefully they're enjoyable regardless. I just don't have any subject or theme in particular I want to watch, so I decided to go with a blanket request for everyone's favorites.

Lol. Hikaru, troll much? XD

And yeah, gojen. That's what I'm doing. I've already explored a couple and decided they're not for me, but hey, no harm in seeing what everyone likes.

I have always liked:
Monster - It's exactly the same as the manga.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica - I liked it a lot.
Jungle wa Itsumo Hare Nochi Guu - This is if you're in the mood for an extremely weird but funny show.
Baccano - The manga is not fully scanlated and it's not licensed.
Le Chevalier D'eon - Beautiful art and animation.
Haibane Renmei - Beautiful and peacefully dramatic.
Michiko to Hatchin - I found this series oddly satisfying.

By Mushi, I'm guessing you mean Mushishi? If not, you should try that one.

As for my favourites, they include:

Mononoke (This has a manga, but I think it was based off the show--also, it's not half as good)
Noein (what my icon is from, lol)
Revolutionary Girl Utena (Also has a manga, but is very different from it)
Paradise Kiss (also has a manga... I'd say they're about equivalent in quality)

and lastly...it's kind of a bizarre one, but I liked it. Though if you don't like it past episode one I suggest dropping it, since it's not for everyone:

Earth Girl Arjuna
