Samurai/swordsman, very odd artstyle with big black eyes

I can't seem to find this again but I once saw this historical anime, I'm pretty sure it has a manga too, about a swordsman that was a bit dumb/unlucky and there was a foreigner that was either albino or blonde, who seemed a bit villanious but in the end he was not an enemy.
The most striking thing was that the characters, especially the samurai, had these very big black eyes that looked like they had no irises.

Katanagatari (Novel) fits I think, it has an anime but no manga adaption. FL is albino and the characters either don't have pupils in some shots or their pupils are white. ML was pretty naive/dumb from what I remember. Artstyle is weird AF and the FL starts out as rather villainous.
Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?

looks interesting so I'll probably check it out! However, not the one I was thinking of. It had more of a "scribbly" style to it and the swordsman had both dead fish eyes and a messy tied-up hairstyle rather than a historically accurate hairstyle (occasionally he had his hair down and it looked a lot less messy).
This is my horrible paint rendition of what I remember of him lol: https://images2.imgbox.com/02/ef/ZV8LZDel_o.png (bishonen face, messy hair sticking out, huge dead eyes)
I think possibly the mangaka/character designer also drew BL but the anime was not a BL, more of a mystery/action thing in fact. Assassins might have been involved near the end.
