lollylopmr suggested that we do a Halloween-related poll, which we haven't done in 15 years.

You can submit poll ideas here: https://www.mangaupdates.com/topic/kilkdnn/site-manga-poll-suggestions

Previous Poll Results:

Question: Do you think a series is better if the author is also the artist?

Choices:

  • Yes - votes: 637 (32.1%)
  • No - votes: 675 (34%)
  • I don't know - votes: 671 (33.8%)

There were 1983 total votes. The poll ended: November 1, 2025

Is this the poll with the most even split in votes?

Where is the "I don't do Halloween"? Or the "There is no Halloween, where I live"? (sadly, I wouldn't be able to chose the latter. It didn't used to be a thing, here, but...)

Not a thing in my immediate locality and socioeconomic stratum.

No. Never did it. Family or friends would instead watch a horror movie on halloween night if anything, I don't think any good scary movies came out this october though.

Yes, I dress up every year, it's my favorite holiday!

I love scaring the trick-or-treaters (and sometimes their parents too) by sitting stock still and pretending to be a prop by the candy bowl. When they approach to get some candy, I let the first one or two (depending on the size of the group) get some without moving to "prove" I'm not real, then when they let their guard down I suddenly jolt up and spook them. It's a good thing we do it on grass since every year we get some kids who fall over when they jump back, often spilling their candy in the process.

Of course, I try not to scare the really little ones or the ones who seem genuinely frightened and clearly don't want to be scared, but I love scaring the kids who are old enough to get a kick out of it.

We also went to a drive through haunt and I wore a mask to that just for the fun of it (albeit a much less restrictive one since I still wanted to be able to see well and I didn't need to look convincingly like there isn't a human hiding underneath), but that was today/technically yesterday now I guess, not on Halloween itself.

Never did Halloween. My mom didn't like it, but even if she did, we couldn't afford the costumes or the candy, and she had us eating healthy anyway (chicken and rice, spaghetti and meat sauce, chili, and homemade hamburger helper—as well as salads—were staples growing up. Also enchiladas and lasagna for special meals. Most cakes were homemade... the icing, too).

And looking back, I don't feel I ever missed out on trick or treating... or Halloween.

I did volunteer at a horror hay ride years ago, so I can relate to how fun it is to scare people. I was a bush shaker, and I still remember the best one: 3 people walking together, a confident guy with a deep voice (who literally said "I'm not scared") and two girls. I waited for what felt like just the right moment and heard 3 girlish screams... one significantly higher and louder than the others. I like to pretend it was the guy with the deep voice, but it was dark and the bushes were tall so I really wouldn't know.

Then I got the flu and had to stop volunteering and life got going so I never did it again.

Now, what I did feel I missed out on was the several classes and their associated clubs that I never knew I could join until I was in the middle of my last year at high school. The receptionist was an amazing woman... the guidance counselors were dogwater. And I've heard from other people who went to that school that they got the same experience I did. Heck, they let me take one too many spares, so I had to come back an extra semester despite never failing a class.

Maybe my life would have taken a different turn had I known about these options. Or not, but certainly I'd have felt a lot better about high school than I did.

No, I love Halloween but stopped dressing up when I aged out of trick or treating. Still my favourite holiday though.

No, it's a kid thing. Over here, once you hit 13 it's frowned upon to go out trick or treating, people only want to give to the little kids. I don't give out candy either, haha. I've turned into a grump in my older years.

I always wear Halloween themed scrubs and accessories to work for Halloween. I haven't worn actual costume in several years though.

I tried to do a costume but none of the facepaint or fabric paint I had cooperated. You really have to do all the prep for this weeks in advance of the event; none of the stuff you buy from seasonal stores is worth a damn and there's no refunds.
