I'm kinda interested in this seeing how it looks like it may be different from the original anime, but I was wondering how it is related? Is like a backstory of certain characters or alternate story?

But hmm... From what I read there, it seems like this is an Alternate Story even though it's said there that this is a Spin-Off. However on MU here, it is listed as a Side Story. I can't help feeling a little confused about this.
