I LOVE MY LEGOS

So what did you build with your legos!
I built lots of towns with my cousin and we would play with the legos and DBZ action figures and this little toy Scar from the Lion King. Then we would play sega genesis all night! Good times.
I liked building spaceships, rather than cars. houses were a hassle to build because I always wanted to make sure the structure was just right and not too weak. My lego collection was huge, all sorts from my cousins, bday presents, ebay, walmart...now I don't see that many legos, and they stopped making the lego boards I heard. (the flat boards you could build your structures on)
Legos were awesome. Several months ago while I was a patient in the hospital, you spent a lot of time in your room, and you couldn't have anything in your room except legos, puzzles and books. So legos were awesome!
Anyway, what'd you like to build with your legos?

Oh god, In my youth I had giant boxes of those things. They were everywhere. I'd build all sorts of crap. Me and my brother used to build our own RPG worlds with legos with elaborate sets and everything. I always was good at building robots. Like the mecha type that the lego guys could ride in. Legos were a hell of a lot of fun.
And of course there was some Sega Genesis going for me as well, though I was alway more of Super NES fan. Unfortunately, DBZ didn't become big until I was over the action figure phase (when I realized legos were more interesting than action figures), so all my old action figures were power rangers.
Are they seriously scaling back? Last I checked lego was doing better than ever getting tie ins with Star Wars and Batman and stuff. I thought they were just as prevalent as ever. If not they should be.
Makes me nostalgic...

I used to build a lot of fortresses, battleships and huge armies then spread them out to look like countries at war...
Good times~
;_; My mom threw them away every couple years when she got fed up with stepping on them...

I don't remember having Legos when I was small, but I do remember playing with the ones my (much) younger brothers had.
Then about the time my little brothers were done with Legos, my kids were ready for them, so we got started with three apple boxes full of 'em. 😀 That would be around 10 years ago now, and both my boys have gotten Legos for most birthdays & Christmases, plus they save up their money & buy their own...I'm pretty sure their Lego collection is worth more than our car. 🤣
They've built pirate ships, spaceships, battleships, castles, fortresses, vehicles from movies & video games, armies, robots, a trebouchet, tons more stuff I can't remember, and sometimes even stuff from actual official instructions. (The Lego web site has quite a lot of printable building instructions as .pdf files - uses up a TON of printer ink, tho. 🤢 )
As far as I can see, Lego is still going strong, and you can still buy the flat base plate thingies to build on, but they're kind of expensive.
K'nex are fun, but snapping them together/apart makes my fingers hurt. 🤢 We had a roller coaster & ferris wheel in our living room for a while, that was cool...
Erector set is also fun, but the nuts & bolts always kept coming undone. 😔
I remember a building toy from when I was very small; there were hard plastic "girders" that snapped together so you could build skyscrapers, and then flexible plastic panels that snapped into grooves in the girders so you could add floors, walls, windows, etc. No idea what it was called though, so it's really hard to look for it. 😢

ugh my mom always tried to force those on me. bleh. 🤢
Yeah! I liked the war sets cause you got cool gear and horses with them.
Well in my lego town, there was always drama. some girl got kidnapped or cheated on so and so. And there was always a sleezy guy, or a burglar, or an evil killer going around town at night killing folks. It was fun playing by myself, but when my cousin moved in for a year and played legos with me, it was an awesome experience to role play these little dramas and conversations with someone else. after he left, I was sad and lost interest. Then I became anti-social and secluded. Story of my life!
Yeah the stores have just been selling star wars stuff. they've kinda moved away from building your own town thing, I remember like a few times a year, walmart or target would have a bucket of legos for like 20 bucks. it came with like wheels, assorted blocks, a couple of people, a small flat board, a couple doors, windows, etc. It was a good starter kit or an addition for anyone.
I'm looking on walmart's online site. they have a lot of sets, but I don't see many in store. I really liked the medieval war ones!! I don't think they're necessarily losing business. idk they might be. But they've changed what they sell now. Well, that's life. Everything changes. If that's what the younger kids are into then that'll be a part of their childhood. Everyone has different experiences..
But yeah, why'd you all quit? I mean, everyone's gotta quit action figures and junk sometime. But did like a new game system come out or what?

Hmmm. I'm 21, still buy & build new sets. I don't have the time to just go nuts like I used to (school, internet & PlayStation), but I do get 'er done every now and then. I have everything form the oooold school alien sets, to some of the more recent star wars sets. Though, as was mentioned, the variety has been greatly reduced at the retailers I frequent. Been a while since I went to Toys R' Us, though...

mmm... I'm not quite sure I remember... But when I was about 8 or less, I glued them together with super glue... I was tierd of them and wanted to build something that would last 🤣
I didn't have much lego though... So nothing really came out of it.
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

I just grew out of it I guess. Other hobbies like video games, anime and manga, took over. And I suppose I started viewing it as something childish as I matured. I don't know. It was great fun while I was at it though.

Legos are amazing. End of story.
