I have been trying to connect to irchighway for like, 3 days.

I keep getting unresolved server.

  • Connect retry #3 irc.irchighway.net (6669)
  • Unable to resolve server

Any suggestions?

Okay, I'm baking stuff right now and can't stay for long, so I'll make this brief and get the obvious causes out of the way first.

Unfortunately, irchighway doesn't publish a server list cos they think their DNS pool is smart enough to redirect you to the most appropriate server... the turds >_>... so you're basically stuck with whatever server they decide to route you through.

Anyways, I'll try to get the obvious out of the way:-

  1. Have you checked to see if your indentd is working?

  2. Is 6669 the only port you use to connect? You can also try 6660, 6661 and 7000 (or 9999 if you wanna connect through SSL).

  3. Did you install new firewall software recently?

  4. Your problem might me I.P specific... if you're on dynamic IP (ADSL), you could try disconnecting and reconnecting till you get a different IP address

  5. Your problem might be DNS specific. Google "Open DNS"

  6. Did you check the server address in you settings.... many people often use irchighway.net, which worked until recently, but now you have to use irc.irchighway.net... try to ping that address to see if you get packet loss problems (though I doubt this since your error is "unresolved server" and not a "time-out" one)... also try tracerouting if possible.

  7. Did you try flushing your DNS cache? (in windows, go to the command line and type ipconfig /flushdns

Btw, I'm not a IRC Highway regular, just so you know.
