Customs

Are there any customs you find weird or interesting?
I find Groundhog Day extremely weird. Why a groundhog seeing it's shadow has to do with how many weeks of winter are left is beyond me. And the fact that they turned into a celebrated holiday is even stranger.
If it weren't for the gutter, my mind would be homeless.

That's true, just long ago myths I guess...but how can the groundhog not see it's shadow with all the lights shined on it?

Eh? Groundhog Day is a holiday? If so, I always forget.
I always found Halloween weird. Dressing up for one day, and asking for candy god knows where. Though its popularity has decreased over the years. And I still don't understand the whole pumpkin thing.
Valentine's day. Since when did it become a 'custom' for only guys to give girls present. Girls should give something back as well. It's only fair. 😛
I find my family/cultural customs weird as well, but I'm sure you just meant general customs.

The Groundhog Day custom has expanded to include 24 hours of that movie with Bill Murray...
I like Japan's Valentine's/White Day custom, it's so much more fair.
Does Black Friday count as an American custom? Going shopping at 4AM after stuffing yourselves silly on a roasted bird-that-cannot-move always seemed kinda stupid.
Edit: Oh yeah, I always looked at Holloween as a way for stupid kids to cull themselves from the genepool by begging for potentially poison-laced leftovers from sketchy strangers.

Yes...what IS Groundhog Day exactly? Why is it celebrated? We may never know...

Groundhog day was never more than a little sidenote to me. Valentine's Day is not something I ever celebrate (even when I am in a relationship). The weird thing for me was always St. Patrick's day. If it's an Irish holiday, how come everyone in America has to wear visible greem or risk getting pinched by everyone else?

Pinched? What's the pinching for? I know about green beer, and I really love Irish fries, but... maybe I don't want to know about the pinching...

So I searched what Groundhog Day really is...still find it weird. I don't get it, is there a specific place where the groundhog shows up, like only in towns. And is it just one groundhog that we rely on or do we have to wait weeks and see which of the thousands of groundhogs were right.
I always wondered what happened to Friendship Day. 😕
St. Patrick's Day- Till this day I still don't understand it. What does the leprechaun have to with it.

St. Patricks day IS weird. I don't get why we have it. Maybe because way back when the Irish immigrants would pinch everyone who wasn't Irish? I doubt it, but maybe. XDDD It makes sense we have an irish holiday though, seeing as we had like.. too many immigrants back in the day.

Groundhog Day is such a silly thing.
I've wondered about that too, when I first saw that film with Bill Murray from 93.
On topic- all jewish customs are pointless.
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

Actually the leprechuan has nothing to do with St. Patrick's Day. The only reason anyone might associate a leprechuan to St. Patty's Day is because it's part of Irish mythology.
