Ok so more than 50% of voters were 11-16 when the first got into anime/manga though we have some surprisingly young fans with people discovering it when they were younger than 5 and others who missed out for more than 20 years! Remember to let us know which anime/manga was your first.
Dragon Ball currently leads as people's first taste with sailor moon close behind. I haven't see either so can't comment.

honestly, i think my first anime was transformers. but i never liked it.
i became AWARE of anime and manga at around 7th grade, in the 11-13 category, after my friends gave me fushigi yuugi and told me to read it. i didn't like it much, but the art intrigued me, so i looked into it and found my first internet manga website and from there it led to anime. :]
you wouldnt believe the shock i got when i discovered the-evil-empire.net. and it took me forever to realize pokemon was an anime.

Somewhere in the 5 - 8 range. I watched Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonball Z, Shaman King, etc., and I remember watching Cardcaptor Sakura when I was in first grade. I didn't even realize that they were called anime. I only started to become more serious about it (watching original japanese anime, buying manga, etc.) in sixth grade.

I guess you can hi-jack someones idea, but you'll never understand their plan for its success.
.
Hmm I don't know exactly. I know I used to watch Speed Racer and Transformers and Voltron and all that when I was pretty young, but I don't think I really had any idea that it was anime. They were just cartoons to me.
The earliest ones I can remember watching knowing it was anime was Ronin Warriors, Tenchi Muyo and Sailor Moon. I don't know which was first, but I guess it was all somewhere around early or mid-90's so I guess I was in my early to mid-teens. Probably in the 14-16 bracket.
I was aware of manga not too long after that, but I only really got into manga a little over a year ago.

11-13 age bracket is pulling away as the lead age range whith 14-16 close behind meaning over 55% of voters were in their early teens and pre-teens when they discovered anime/manga
Dragonball is leading the way as people's first anime with Sailor moon close behind and pokemon creeping up.
Sailor moon and Fushigi Yuugi tie for first place as people's first manga

I'd heard of manga & anime before (from my brother), but didn't actually read manga until I was 31; the first one I read was Ranma 1/2 vol. 2 from the local library. Anime was later that same year, I think.

I guess I was around grade 4 or 5. When we were still back in Vietnam more than a decade ago, my mom bought and rent books weekly or biweekly for my family to read. We were a family of Readaholic. One day, she just added manga into the collection. I couldn't remember which manga series I first read because there were a lot of things to read around the house.
Some series such as Dragon Quest: Dai's Adventure, Doraemon, Candy Candy, Astro Cat, The Three Eyed One, and some other series by TEZUKA Osamu were the first series we read I think.
Captain Subasa, Dragon Ball, and Ranma 1/2 were the latter series we read before we moved to Canada.

Anime- Sailor Moon when I was 5-6, along with DBZ, Pokemon, Digimon and Cardcaptors later on.
Manga- Shaman King when I was 11 or so. It was on tv around here and I looked on the internet, found the subs for the anime and then stumbled across the manga.
