I'm up to volume 5 of the novel and the more I read the less I think that Suzumiya is the one that has the power to change the world, I kind of think that Kyon is actually the one that has that power or that he at least can control Suzumiya's power unconsciously. Every time that something happens he's always present and most of the times it's something that involves him,

And then there are scenes that completely contradict my thoughts this is really driving me insane.

Read through volume nine before speculating, there's a fair amount of information to be added that doesn't exactly agree with your interpretation.

I was thinking that, but then I see that Kyon the whole time doesn't wish for these things it Haruhi, so unless he's subconsciously giving in to her desires, that can't be right.

What made me think like this is the fact that even Kyon wished for a different world, an exiting world. In Volume 4 - The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi he even chose the old world instead of the one where everyone was normal. But like Crenshinibon said, I shouldn't speculate before reading through Volume 9, I'm already starting on Volume 6 and should be done with 9 tomorrow or the day after. I'll post something then.
