My mom grew up watching anime (Future Boy Conan, Doraemon, etc) but she stopped watching it as she matured. My dad probably couldn't afford a TV as he was growing up LOL. They both grew up in South Korea, so there wasn't as much anime at the time on TV.

I remembered watching Dragon Ball on tapes every Sunday at 7pm. Other than that, no.

My mom read manga as a kid and when she was pregnant with me. She would rent some manga from the local manga place and buy some good Taiwanese food and then go home and just eat and read.

If my parents ever watch anime it's to check the content rating. Other than that, they never tried.

I had to laugh when I saw that poll because honestly, my parents cannot understand it at all. My mom has reverted to "Well, this is is your hobby" and my dad chooses to say nothing, probably because he thinks there are worse hobbies to have. Needless to say they're never finding out I read yaoi.

Ha ha, my parents read/watched manga and anime as kids, but kind of lost touch after moving to the States. When I got into it in college, I reintroduced them to it. Now that they are retired, they watch all sorts of anime on TV and online, and they read all my manga. ALL my manga. Though I think my Dad is a little confused by the BL and shoujo-ai...
And yeah, I even insisted my parents read Madness (Shimotsuki Kairi). Mom enjoyed it, but I think Dad preferred my Hellsing and Kenshin.
Come to think of it, I haven't done a buying trip in a while because my Mom does it for me bigrazz

There should be a "they used to" option. They followed super robot anime back in the seventies, and when there was an anime boom here in the late nineties they watched with me. I remember my mother saying she enjoyed watching Yu Yu Hakusho.

Things slowed down and eventually stopped when I started getting my fix online instead of local/cable tv. And it's not like I'm willing to show them the stuff I'm involved in now, lol.

Haha, like I could ever convince them to. >_> It's "too childish" and my parents rather watch Asian dramas. I do, however, enjoy watching Asian dramas, too. bigrazz

Well, my mom occasionally watches anime movies (that I know of, she's watched Ponyo, Toki o Kakeru Shoujo, and Arietty), but only when they are on TV (free), which is rarely, and I think she only watches them because she sees them as unique (also she just loves watching movies). In other words, she's not really "into" anime and never watches regular anime. I've never seen her read manga, either--oh, except for Hikari to tomo ni (but I think that was only because it's the story of an autistic child). So I'm counting her as a no. My dad's definitely a no, I've never seen him watch anime (not into TV or movies) or touch manga (not really interested in reading other than textbooks).

This may be in large part my fault. I'm pretty sure if I shared my manga with my mom, she would read it (she loves reading); however, I don't let anyone touch my manga that I've bought (it's for my collection, so I want it kept in perfect condition. And it's all in Japanese anyway, which she can't read), I read most of my manga online (not shareable because my mom hates reading on computer monitors), I don't want to talk about manga with her (I like talking about manga in general, but I hate talking about stories, characters, etc.--any subject content), and also I don't want to read with her or when she's around (I only read manga alone, because I hate being watched and I hate being interrupted)... so sharing is almost impossible.

I'm sure my mom would watch anime with me if I asked her to--as a matter of fact, she's asked me to watch anime movies with her, but I hate anime, so I refuse to watch it. Sort of a shame really, but I can't stand the stuff. But even if I did watch anime, I'd watch it alone anyway (because I want to watch things in silence). My dad's a lost cause though, I think.

I guess what I'd have to do is go out and buy manga especially for her (English & genre she would like) from the bookstore... Hmm, you know, now that I've thought of that, I may actually do it.

My mom use to watch anime when she was younger. Speed Racer, Astro boy, Princess Knight. Now...not so much. We sometimes see Ghibli films together and an anime here and there as a family. Other than that, she doesn't watch anymore. She thinks it's more for kids (didn't help when she was forced to watch the first Pokemon movie in theaters laugh )

On the other hand, my dad was actually the person who introduced me to anime at the tender age of 4. We use to watch Sailor Moon together. He would record and even tell me what happened when I missed episodes because of school. We use to watch Princess Mononoke together when I was around 6-7 years old (though he probably got tired of it because I liked to watch it all the time biggrin ). This was all before I got into Pokemon... These days I catch him watching anime once in a while. Ghost in the shell SAC, Texhnolyze, Blood the Last Vampire, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai 7. He's not into shounen. When my bro and I watch something like FMA on the tv, he gets a hilarious look on his face.

Nope. Never tried, and never will. I'm probably happy with things being this way. Who knows what will happen if they actually got into anime/manga and realised just what I've been reading all these while eek

My mom used to watch it with me since the we only had one tv hooked up to cable. She kind of liked Sailor Moon. She never watched it on her own though and when I stopped watching it on TV, so did she.

Nope.
I tried making my father read Kiseijuu (because it's awesome) on his laptop, but he never did.
I even downloaded it for him and everything, but he just looked at me like I'm crazy and said "I'm not going to read that".

As for my mother, I tried getting her to watch Ghibli films because she usually watches stuff that father downloads together with the brat, but she was all "I don't wanna watch these stupid cartoons".
Then one day I caught them watching "Tales from Earthsea" so I asked what did she think she was watching....
"Oh, but it's so interesting", she said.
"You see? Why wouldn't it be", I questioned.

Anyways, after that, I tried making my father download more Ghibli films for them but he didn't...
My parents are really rather frustrating people.

But I guess I don't really care either way.
