the thing is that many online modchip shop already put this thing as preorder, I don't see any point for them to scam because it would damage their reputation.

Well, I suppose it could be, but there are too many independent reviewers who've put their reputation on the line, including some major websites.

Within the next week or so, even more are supposed to be receiving their devices for testing. So far the reviews have been unanimously in the positive, so we'll see if it continues.

What kind of "reputation" do you think these "independent reviewers" have, the ones who use modchip which is illegal, often have the ability to brick a super-expensive PS3 system and considered to be far more illegal than scanalizing manga, since at least scanalator group have to put considerable effort in translating/scanalizing manga?

Use them or not its kind of your choice, but I wouldn't count on their "reputation" too much since most of modchips for any system including PSX, PS2, XBOX, PSP, or even IPhone if done even slightly incorrectly carry a HUGE risk of bricking the system.

Frankly speaking, the only way to confirm if its real or scam is to wait and go to boards and see reviews and comments of other gamers/users who already done it not "independent reviewers"

That web ain't showing for me so I can't tell if its a scam or not. xD Don't need it though. I only modded my PS2 to play imports, but the PS3 plays imports without mod...and I have a Jap PS2 now..

1. There are legal ways to use a modded console. However, there are no legal ways to use scanned manga that you did not scan yourself. Don't kid yourself into thinking that what goes on in the scanlation scene isn't against the law; it doesn't matter how much effort a team puts into it. The government simply doesn't care as much when the industry's impact on our economy is much smaller.

2. Only idiots brick their systems. When instructions are followed - no brick. The problem is when someone gets nervous and forgets a step, or questions what they just did. In fact, my friend bricked his 360... Why? Laziness: He didn't check the drive's key against one that was already 'safe'. That's nearly as stupid as not setting up low-level brick-blocking programs before bombing your Wii.

3. The "independent reviewers" ARE gamers. That's why they're -independent-. They just happen to be gamers with reputations for coding/scripting/reviewing, whatever... That lends them credibility over someone who's only been a member of 'the community' for a short time. The dongle won't be available to the general public for another week or so, as they wait for the hype/reviews/etc to hit the fan.

True enough. I modded my PS2 purely for undubs. The PS3 has been MUCH better about releasing Japanese AND English tracks with the latest games, however. Probably because blu-ray gives them oodles of space to fill.
