Well, since there is some ambiguity about it, I've decided to create a thread solely for discussing the genre of a certain manga.

So, whatever doubts you may have, here's the perfect place to do so. This way you can 'debate' with the people who think different about it, and who knows, maybe you'll see that they're (partially) right.

I would prefer it though, that you use some (solid) arguments as to why a certain manga should be labeled by that specific genre.

Maybe we could add some feature to the site, which enables someone(mods maybe?) to set a certain genre, or exclude a certain genre from the manga's genre list?

So that they won't switch the genre back and off, over and over again...

Though the latter part of my post could be seen as a suggestion for the site.

Anyways, the stage is all yours now~ 😀

Well okay then, I have a question, should "School days" really be a drama, romance, tragedy! Now, I understand the drama and tragedy but is it really romance if the guy cant stay with one girl and goes and fs the whole set, I think its more of a sexual urge than romance, okay I admit maybe from the girls perspective but if they know that the same guy they love fs every girl he knows, while dating them, is it really romance or maybe just some psychological disorder like denial or even delirium like in Kotonohas case (where she talks to the cellphone and imagines she is talking to Makoto) Somebody explain

I think genres should just serve as a rough guide, not an absolute label to any specific manga. I don't even see why there's this obsessive need to label everything. I called Nana a shoujo manga one time and everyone suddenly jumped on the offense as if I just committed a mortal sin. I don't see it as a fatal mistake. So what? If I call this manga 'romance' while the other person doesn't consider it as such, it shouldn't matter. We're just being too pedantic nowadays. Other movies and books don't suffer the same obsession to be labeled. Can Harry Potter be considered "school life" or not? No one cares. The same should go with manga.

Years ago, when sites like mangaupdates or onemanga weren't born yet, there were really only two genres: shoujo and shounen. And no one complained. Then I take a break from reading manga, come back a few years later, now there's this 'seinen' and 'josei' and even 'harem' and 'gender bender'. I mean...what the hell?!

Yeah, but I mainly made this thread, so that the 'Search' feature would be more accurate.

I mean, if you're looking for a Seinen/Romance, you don't expect Gantz to show up, would you? ._.

I, myself, hate too much labeling too, but in this case, it's to make the 'Search' feature more reliable~

I hope you understand. >.<

P.S.: Nana really is a Shoujo manga. They were wrong. 🤣

As someone who was translating in this time long ago that you speak of, I will clarify that Seinen and Josei did exist. They just weren't known to the general public (and weren't worked on very frequently). Omanga did a lot of them back in the day.

And Bleach isn't romance!
