Kinda in reference to this thread, but only for Japan.

You know that once it is banned in Japan, there is no safe place for lolicons/perverts anymore! laugh In recent months, more of these articles are popping up about Japan trying to ban lolicon and the like due to foreign pressure, since it creates a negative image to the world. Lots of mangaka are naturally against it.

Most recent article:
Tokyo Reps: 'Nonexistent Youth' Bill May Still Pass in June (2 May 2010)

Most of these links are about 2D child porn, but one of it's about rape against women,
and one is even about BL (shotacon BL if I understand correctly).

Previous articles:
Osaka Lists 8 Boys-Love Mags Designated as 'Harmful' (update) (28 April 2010)
Osaka Designates 8 Boys-Love Manga Mags as 'Harmful' (26 April 2010)

Osaka Considers Regulating Boys-Love Materials (4 April 2010)
Tokyo's 'Nonexistent Youth' Bill Officially on Hold (19 March 2010)
Asahi: Tokyo's 'Virtual' Child Porn Bill Put on Hold (16 March 2010)

Japan Delays Decision on Manga/Anime in Child Porn Law (13 June 2008)
USA, Japan Propose Limits on Explicit Online Material (09 December 2007)

So, what do you think about this recent thread? Condone or object it? O_O

I heard about the bill in Tokyo and didn't the response by all those mangaka take everyone by surprise? I mean... they were expecting only eroge or hentai artists to respond... but the amount of response was shocking(you'd all sorts of mangaka protesting, including Hagio Moto and many other renown mangaka). So it was delayed until June.

As for the bill in Osaka... heh, so they're still trying to push out for certain restrictions, eh.

Hmmm... I don't think they should restrict depictions of such materials and scenarios. As for whether minors should be allowed to purchase such materials, I'm unsure. But I think it depends on whether they've the brains to treat it as reality. I know that even babies "touch themselves" so it's evident that even children have sexual desires, thus... it's not a question of whether children should be allowed to read this stuff. If they're not interested in it, then they won't really read it.

And I wonder if the recent "outrage" about Christopher Handley has anything to do with this? Just an assumption 'cos Japan really likes to present a "squeaky clean" image after all. But it's too late 'cos you know... of all that anime and manga floating around... which has all that shounen-ai/shoujo-ai/yuri/erotic subtext. laugh I mean: just who are they kidding?

P.S. Errr... check your inbox please. thx. =)

The rest of the world needs to stfu. I have read plenty of incest manga and that doesn't mean that I want to screw my brother. I have read a loli series does NOT mean I'm a pedophile.

Honestly with the loli/shota, I can never see them as kids. In manga they just look like short adults. :/

I just laughed in my head when I imagined a protest march... a mob of perverts.
With the honour thing in Japan, I wonder how many people are willing to stand up and protest?

But they're not short adults, they're underage, which is why its loli and shota for a reason.

Well, they're drawings, so their age is ultimately irrelevant.

In any case, this would really suck. 'Child porn' is a pretty ambiguous thing ... and let's face it - if their definition isn't very tight they're going to end up banning ~70% or so of manga. Even if their definition is reasonably well thought out it's probably going to catch some stuff that isn't porn or is at least artistically good enough that it shouldn't be banned regardless of it being porn (not that I think that drawn porn of any description should be banned, so ... yeah).

Given that my favourite mangaka is [a]Mohiro Kitoh[/a] ... well, y'know - I don't want him to stop his occasional graphic depictions of loli rape-and-disembowelment. Japan is the only place that produces stuff that goes as far as, say, Narutaru and Bradherley's Coach (despite neither of these being porn, I don't see how you can formulate a useful legal definition of child porn that wouldn't include them). They'd be doing their culture a huge disservice to make it illegal.

... but the whole thing is stupid anyway. The non-existent youth don't need protecting, and porn doesn't destroy the existent youth either.

Also, I find the UN thing to be soo hypocritical. Tell me, why do bodies and govts always like to interfere with what people do in their bedrooms? Do they realize that some of the players of "games with rape scenarios" also include women? ^^;; And just because people play that kind stuff, doesn't mean they'll all become rapists. And if you looked at the matter in the opposite manner... are they also insinuating that any female who plays rape games might become a rape victim or someone addicted to rape/"unhealthy matters of the mind and body"?

Isn't that the kind of presumptive logic about gender behaviours and norms many females have spent their time fighting?

Besides,... there's "purely sexual games" and "games like visual/kinetic novels which often contain very meaningful themes and storytelling." And sometimes, the rape scenarios are part of the writing, especially if it's a story meant to depict someone's suffering(in order to induce empathy and compassion and other emotions in the reader). Or if not, if it's a story told from the viewpoint of a cruel and malicious character(like the viewpoint of Alex in Clockwork Orange).

I honestly don't understand what's wrong with the world today.

Get on stopping actual child porn and rape and murder and then come back to this if it means so much after, you dumb fucks.

They just want to seem like they're doing SOMETHING.

I would have to agree with you there.

I am assuming that most everyone on this site lives in the west, so you all know that this will just be the beginning.

some bullshit
people just dont understand that banning stupid things like this, even if they seem right, will slowly but surely end up screwing all social freedoms in the end

Right?! That's what I keep saying!
People just like to look at the face value and not putting a little more thought to it >_<

Like others have said, they should concentrate on real CP first before anything else. I mean...there's quite a bit out there dead
Also, wouldn't banning what essentially is a simulation encourage the real thing?
There's more than just one way for the perverts to get what they want @_@

Obviously, I totally object to banning lolicon and shotacon manga and anime.

Rape games, though, I'm slightly more wary of. They have the user take an active role that he can't with passive media. You aren't reading about someone being raped, you're pretending to rape someone - in a media format that is clearly intended to be voyeuristic and pornographic.
I don't support the government banning them, though, because I don't think any government should interfere with free expression if it doesn't directly bring harm to people. I think the industry should regulate itself.

I have no problem with pedophiles, people who fantasize about raping people... just raise the age limit of possessing such items... (maybe 25)

Oh and... having this stuff in the open lets me know who not to talk to, because honestly I hate all that stuff. Different folks different strokes.

So for you... it's a law issue and not a moral issue?

Oh, you're an aristocrat alright...
