Hello folks, first post on this forum and it isn't quite manga related. But it's a topic I've been mulling over for awhile now.

Why isn't there any projects to translate Franco-Belgian comics to English? Those comics are great and I grew up reading a lot of them. One of my favorites is one called Les Tuniques Bleues, a story about two soldiers during the American Civil War. Gamers might remember a game called North & South which was based upon the comic. When I checked the wiki article on the comic I found that it's still being published and is at it's 51'th album, that's over 30 new albums since its publishing stopped over here. There are other interesting comics as well, like Yoko Tsuno, Lucky Luke, Iznogood, Gaston Lagaffe, Valérian et Laureline, Chinaman, Blueberry.
Occasionally these comics get published in English speaking countries but often not even a handful come out before they're discontinued or the publisher goes belly up. Asterix for example which most European comic readers recall fondly was hardly published at all in the US or UK.

I could buy the comics and learn French I suppose, but I'm too old and stupid to pick up a fourth language really. So I'm wondering, might there be a "scene" with scanlations of French language comics out there that I'm unaware of? If not, I hope that I can at least inspire someone to direct some energy into an untapped treasure trove of comics.
