New Poll - Starting a Cancelled Series

This week, our member Viki.kdrama is wondering if you would start a series that has already been cancelled (whether that be after 10 chapters or 100 chapters). It's like how Netflix cancels a lot of their shows only after a season or two, but would you still watch that show?
You can submit poll ideas here: https://www.mangaupdates.com/topic/kilkdnn/site-manga-poll-suggestions
Previous Poll Results:
Question: Do you like it when chapters have specific names?
Choices:
- Yes - votes: 1089 (50.4%)
- No - votes: 92 (4.3%)
- Don't care - votes: 978 (45.3%)
There were 2159 total votes. The poll ended: July 5, 2025
At least few are against it, but a lot of people don't care too much

Add "Only if it was bad" for symmetry. Otherwise "Yes" doesn't make sense.

Only if it's for something I've been recommended, or I know has a lot of things I'd like, or if I'm partaking in it with someone else because they want to watch it with me. I can be convinced, yeah, but I'd much rather get into something completed or ongoing or even something on hiatus rather than something cancelled/axed.
It'd also have to be in a medium I prefer because it takes a lot to convince me to watch a television series that's been cancelled and has no proper ending, but because I love comics and books so much the bar to clear to get me into them even when they've cancelled is lower. If a comic seems even a little interesting, or a book series is by an author whose other works I've liked, I'll give it a shot even if it's been cancelled, but anything that involves long lengths of audio or watching video like podcasts or television are a whole different matter. I just don't like those mediums nearly as much (they're harder to focus on, for me, and that lessens my ability to enjoy them by a lot) so any series that isn't appealing to me in 10 different ways I'm likely to drop or not even start.
I looked at tons of early works of famous mangaka, despite constant quality concerns, so meeting an early grave can be a blessing. Araki went through three cancelled works, spanning two chapters, one volume, and finally two volumes in length, before stumbling into the still-messy JoJo Part 1. But look at him now. All his early flops even found new life decades later. Baoh remake when?
I also read EU/US comics and am a librarian.

I voted "No" because I can't stand stuff getting cut off in the middle and knowing it'll never be finished, and if I know from the start a series has been axed that's an absolute dealbreaker for me, but technically I'll sometimes read a series that was axed as in the creator was forced to wrap it up sooner than they intended as long as they're still able to give it a satisfying ending.
Really it's the lack of a resolution that I can't handle, so as long as they've managed to create a passable resolution and tied up the major loose threads, I'll be willing to consider it "rushed" rather than "axed". If it's a true axed ending where it ends on a cliffhanger or without tying up any loose threads like in a "the adventure continues" style, there's no way I'm reading it though, I hate setting myself up for disappointment.

I drop series if they get cancelled... So if i know it is axed i will not even start reading... Unfinished series are way too unsatisfying ... I might read other works by same author though still, depending on circumstances

Yes but mostly because people call every series that has completed "axed" regardless of the circumstances. Like Hey Man, maybe you only read long running Shounen Jump, but sometimes the author only plans to write two volumes.
An actually cancelled manga, that depends

I'm still bitter when Mx0 end (axed obviously). It was very good and funny.

I choose "Yes, if it's good."
To be honest, there are a lot of things to considerate before I took a canceled/axed series to read. One of them is the reason behind the cancellation. For example, I wouldn't read Act-Age, but I definitely would read Double Arts once more, if I haven't read it before.
Another factor is on how popular it was. Canceled/axed series means I wouldn't get any proper ending. It would be good if it was based on a novel—at least I could read the novel for a proper ending. But if it's not, I hope some fans would wrote fanfiction, giving me a peace of mind.

No. I can't stand a series not being finished or having a rushed (i.e. badly done) ending. So if I know beforehand, I won't read such a series even if it's otherwise a good one.

Some of my favorite shows are ones that got cancelled after 1 season, so I don't let that be a deciding factor.
A Manhwa that comes to mind that I really enjoyed despite it being axed: The Golden-Haired Summoner

"Only if it was good" - I don't go looking for reviews in those cases so I give them just a little bit of a chance than the ongoing and completed series. I might waste my time with something that seems kinda bad, but is completed. But cancelled and seems bad... eh... might as well pass.
That said, I rarely check if it was cancelled before reading so maybe my answer should have been "yes" for how often I start reading already cancelled series. I'm also so used to leaving stories unfinished because I drop them or because the translations get abandoned that I don't care much about endings.
Besides, there are some great stories that were never finished that the beginning is still worth it. Golondrina is one of those for me. I'm forever sad that it's in eternal hiatus and even if it came back, it would be for a rushed last volume just to conclude the story. But I still love the beginning and I plan to read all the volumes when I get the chance.

Most of the time, an axed series just means a rushed ending. I'm more of a "it's the journey" type of reader, so yeah I'll still pick it up. Although, that said, whether I make it to the end will depend how much I like the start and maybe up to the middle.
I'm more wary of those series on lengthy hiatuses. It's more painful to wait for a continuation than to go through a disappointing ending because it's easier to move on from the latter. Plus these are the ones that end up actually being cut off in the middle of the story once they're finally discontinued.

Depends how long it is. If it got axed on chapter 12 probably not. If it got axed on chapter 50 if it looks interesting.

"Only if it's good."
Normally I avoid axed works, but sometimes there's a good reason, like the author's death, and you want to at least see where it was going.
