Nope. For some reason most people don't expect me to be the 'type' of person that reads manga, so they are always sort of surprised when I mention it--but I do not hesitate to tell them about it! 😀

I'm not embarrassed because nothing is to be ashamed of reading manga, whatever genre it belongs to.
the hell with people who do not like or even touch manga. 😛
all of my friends, even my parents, know that i read manga.
some of them even asks me about what i read, the updates on the manga/anime that they know (my parents do not ask.lol.).
Also,my siblings and close friends listen to me as i tell them the story of interesting mangas that i have found.
everybody lies.

i would say yes and no..
NO, to the normal, straight mangas
YES, to the non-straight n' 'u-know-what' mangas.. ^^

No because they read it too. My parents don't care and my sisters try to relate to me by having me explain the stories to them. So I find no shame in saying I read them.
My friends know I read manga. Though, I would be extremely embarrassed if a stranger found out I'm reading manga. It's just somewhat weird to let a stranger know that I read manga when we're not fully acquainted yet. IMO.

No.
I've known my friends since middle/high school, so they already know and either don't care or read it too.
As far as other people, I really don't see why I should be embarrassed about reading manga. Some people might see it as "nerdy" or something, I guess. But then, if they don't like "nerdy" things, we probably won't get along anyway, so I don't really have to care what they think.

to be honest, i rarely talk about the books/manga i read...i gave up on discussing those things or recommending stories to my friends loooooooong ago. its just that i've always had a "bizarre"(is what my friends call it) taste in books, manga, music and movies. im not embarrassed at all its only a matter of having no friends with mutual preferences in manga/books/movies.

My friends don't even know I read manga to be honest....
As they played the game...I waited for someone to call "onigiri." But no one called. I was very little then. I had almost forgotten about that. [...] But they knew...there would never be room for an onigiri...in a fruits basket.

Eh, yes and no. For new people I meet, I definitely don't blurt out that it's something I enjoy. I prefer to get to know the person first before I tell them the things I'm interested in. But for friends I've known for over 7 years, they know I enjoy anime and manga but it took time for me to feel comfortable enough to tell them the things I'm interested in. Come to find out, my friends I've now known for 7 years also enjoy manga. So no. With those friends, I'm not embarrassed to talk about it with them. To be honest though, we rarely talk about anime and manga. :/

I don't really tell people, probably because my grade has only 70 kids, so there realy isn't anyone else that reads it. Besides, when I even mention manga or anime, they start assuming its fanservice crap or NARUTONARUTONARUTO (as if that's the only manga ever). Ironically, the same people loved the shit out of DBZ (and in fact are watching DBZ Kai). At this point only my best friend really knows to what extent I love manga but he doesn't really mind.
When I go to a bigger school in college, I'm more likely to discuss it openly because there's bound to be others that share my interests.
I like how people say, 'If my friends asked, I would tell them.'
So they think something like this will happen:
-
'Man, this beer is awesome.'
-
'Yeah. Yo, Dave, can I ask you somethin'?'
-
'Sure, bro.'
-
'Do you like manga?'
-
'What?'
Moral of the story: If you don't let others know you read manga, it means you're embarrassed about it.

i guess i would find it embarrassing a bit. ppl in my school like its stupid, which it isnt and are kinda stereotyping. cuz theres a group of kids in my grade that are called freaks cuz they read mangas. im kinda well known and one of the "smart ppl" so many people wld think i was lying even if i told them. i only talk about it with my manga buddies only. 😁
