Are you embaressed to let your friends know you read manga?

Depends on what kind of manga, but usually, yes, I'm embarrassed. I don't read it in front of them. One of my friends is an artist like me, and I know she can draw better than 80% of the mangakas whose works I read. The material available to me in libraries isn't really the type that I like (e.g. just blatantly bad shoujos like Kimi ni Todoke and, to a lesser extent, Lovely Complex). I prefer to read more mature manga like Vinland Saga, but can't access them. So the only manga I can read in front of my friends are the mainstream, overrated or just piss-poor series.
Plus, most mangaka just don't know how to do their job. Most can't even draw properly, and almost all can't cook up a good plot.

nope...in fact i'm trying to make them read them(the bossy type, i know).also, i have quite a number of friends and acquaintances that read and love manga (which surprised me, since i'm from greece), so it's no problem for me.so i discuss about manga, even when friends that don't read them are present...some get a bit annoyed when they hear me and my other friends discussing about them, but in fact i believe that they are interested in them 🙂 !!!!!!!
being embarassed or not may have also to do with age or manga material itself...but why be embarassed reading epic like ONE PIECE 😕 !!!!!!!!!!!
I'm afraid that some day everyone will abandon me...and they'll be left alone!!

Not embarrassing.
My friends know I do. Most of them assumed I did anyways because I'm Asian. lol
My asian friends know too, some even ask me for rec's.
I wouldn't go out and just yell to the world that I read manga though. If they ask me, I'll say the truth. (:

Nope! Manga is such a big part of who I am! I have one friend who doesn't want to read manga but I always try to make her 😛 . I don't have many friends to talk about shoujo manga with, though there are plenty to talk to about the shounen ones haha.

not really, I don't really care. all my friends know I read it. Just that I don't talk about it, if I start I get really excited and go on a manga-talk spree.=_=;

I hear you say "Why?" Always "Why?" You see things; and you say "Why?" But I dream things that never were; and I say "Why not?"

Absolutely all my friends know. I always talk to them about the storylines and junk.
And I've gotten quite a few friends into it too. :/
The way I see it, is that I need to be myself and true friends will accept me for who I am.

I'm not embarrassed at all. I actually like telling them because here manga is not that common and I would love to have someone to share my thoughts with. 😃

I don't know since when has it been such an embarrassing thing to read manga. So no. I don't keep it to myself.

i sort of get embarrased because my friends usually don't know what "manga" is.
i would end up telling them all about it in a obsessive-like manner and then think later about how i had acted.
but haha. this question really reminded me of a funny incident about a few months ago.
my dentist was fixing my teeth, and i guess he thought i was bored or something, so he asked me what i did during my free time. without thinking( and with this piece of huge rubber thing in my mouth), i automatically said that i read mangas . he had a confused face and said...."you read MANGOS 😕 ?".... 🤣
i thought THAT experience was embarrasing.

Oh my gosh my step grandmother said the same thing!! (kinda) Except it was over facebook and I said "I'm a mangaholic!" and she asked me, "you like mangos...??" 🤣

I usually don't tell my friends about it not really because I'm embarrassed, i just don't want to have to explain what it is, because most of my friends think that manga is a Japanese word for anime. A few of my friends know I read it and then don't really care that much they just bring it up to make a joke every once in a while.Although there was one time that my roommate said something to his girlfriend about manga while we were walking by a manga store and she said that she thinks that all of those weird Asian porn books are weird and used by perverts, my roommate and I just looked at each other and started cracking up. I told her later about why and she was really embarrassed that she said that about one of my hobbies lol.I can see why a lot of people would not want to share this hobby with other though, it does take a little bit of explanation to make other understand it is more then just tentacle rape lol. 😲

No, but actually, manga and anime aren't brought up in real life conversations.
