Nope, half my friends read manga and the other half hate manga so i hit them with the books.lol i use to read my manga at football and baseball practice in high school and people made fun of me so i either beat them with the hard copy till they had manga imprinted on their face or i just made sure they got hit in football or smacked with a ball in baseball. One time in baseball practice a guy took one of my manga and ripped it up and laughed at me so when i was up to bat i lined it up and nailed him dead in the crotch with the ball,30 minutes later he came back to practice and i did it again,i repeated that for about 3 weeks so he bought me manga and never touched it again, but now i wonder if he can have kids now

In between answer, considering I've always said "Yeah, it's a manga I'm reading" and have them laugh at me.
; 3 ;
But I still enjoy trying to explain manga to those that question it. Too bad my friends have already rejected that part of me sadly, they're the ones missing out.
I admit, my bathroom is actually water-pokemon themed... well, it was supposed to be, until I decided I wanted different kinds so now it's a water park with Pokemon. I have a little bit too much spare time...

Some of mine were indifferent, others were a bit weirded out, and the rest were with me! I was the Anime Club Leader in my High-School years so I was pretty open about the fact I read Manga. Not a bad thing 😉

Like many others here, not really. I've loads of friends irl who read manga/watch anime and we often gather in our breaks to just talk about the most recent chapter of some manga or general otaku talk. My clique alone has like 8 ppl who do so, n they are linked to other ppl who read it too so nothing's really wrong with it in the social circles i hand around in 🙂

I don't even remember when I started actually reading manga (probably One Piece's fault).
They'd started an Anime Club at my high school before I graduated... but most of them were avid fanatics. I still kept my reading secret, since I wanted nothing to do with their awkward social circle. 😮
(I tell you all, none of them knew any sense.) 😔

It's nothing to feel embarrassed about, and most of my friends know I read manga anyway.

Hell no!
I am a manga reading hermit and I am proud of it. This is who I am, and if my friends have problems with it, they don't accept me for who I am. Ergo, they aren't real friends.
Yes, some of my friends don't share this hobby, so we just talk about other stuff.
Luckily I do have several friends and two brothers in law I can speak with when it comes to manga and anime.

Sometimes i feel embarassed to tell my friends that i love manga, they think that people who read manga are ugly, and that they read manga because they don't have friends, so there is nothing else to do!
So i don't really say it wherever i go, but my most precious friends know and even if they laught about it , i know that they don't really care!
<3
I'm already sorry for the mistakes that i will make ! I'm french so my english is not perfect ! sorry ;p

my friends do know about it(the ones who like manga themselves and even those who doesnt care about it at all/dont know manga), but it's not like i'm boasting about it everywhere cuz there(here) are really a very little group of people who know what manga/anime is...;(
that's sad and cuz they dont understand they want to laugh at you(the mean way not friendly) and stuff, but oh well luckily i'm not the kind of person one can laugh at if he/she still want to live(dont take it literally) so it doesnt trouble me...and hey, if anyone dares to boast about it too much and it gets too annoying to me my friends help me out^^
so, yeah all my friends know about it, but not all of the even know what actually manga is... 😉
so, i'm not embaressed to let my friends know...^^that's just who i am and they understand... 🙂

Not really. I whip out a book from my school bag whenever I feel like reading. When my friends ask me what I'm reading, I just show it to them. They're either interested or just shrug it off as an "Oh."

__ I'll have what she's having... please~♥
I'm the most hardcore of my friends but a huge amount of them read manga or watch anime too. I'd say at least a good 8-15 of them and the rest are gamers or into similar sub-culture so none of my friends really care.
Currently Reading: Gave up counting after 100 Manga...
Currently Watching: everything
I'd like to say 'no', but truth is "yes I am".
I suppose should care less about what people think about me...
In any case most of my friends are just not into it and my family would never understand (the long explanations of "it's not for kids!", "it's japanese culture!", etc.). Which is why I read/watch during the spare time when I am not doing anything else and nobody is around.
It works out fine for me... I only get the urge to rage at Bleach and Naruto chapters and I can do that on manga-updates... better not to get into heated face-to-face discussions lol.

No! I don't care what other thinks, it's their problem if they think is strange or childish. I have only one friend that reads manga and watches anime. I'm trying to influence other to read instead that care about my friends opinion about it. The problem I "discovered" manga over 1 and half year ago and I am "old". The problem is that Sweden doesn't have so much much manga( now a lite bit more) and anime that the cause of the late discovery of anime and manga. So many of my friend don't really know what manga and anime is they might think that it is something for children, even when I say it is really for all ages.

Nah, I don't care... It might be more embarrassing that I'm 33 and still read manga... But I don't care about that either!!! 🤨 🤣

I know what you mean, but it inevitably becomes your problem too... eventually.
People react differently to others based on what they think of them.
Not that I'm ashamed of myself for my hobbies and deliberately try to keep them a secret.
I just don't really flaunt hobbies and put a shirt that says "iheartanime". For example, I have about 20 gundam volumes on a shelf with my other books (quite a nice fantasy collection I'd say - A song of Ice and Fire, Wheel of Time, etc...) and when someone asks me about them I just say I really like big robots. Once, a friend knew right away it was manga because he reads it too, but most of the time nobody gives it a second glance.
