Author Kenji Inoue revealed in the author's notes of the 11th volume of his Baka to Test to Shōkanjū novels that he is planning to end the series in the next volume. In Volume 11, which shipped on Saturday, Inoue wrote:

"It's not definite at the time, but I think if things go well, the next volume will be the final one. I would be very happy if you would read to the end to find out what happens."

The comedy light novels' story centers around Akihisa Yoshii, the "baka" of the title. His magical academy rigidly divides up the student body into classes based on the results of tests. The prodigies are in the A class with reclining seats complete with air conditioning, but Akihisa is in F class, the lowest rung of the school ladder which is furnished only with low, decrepit tables and worn-out straw tatami mats. Akihisa decides to rally F class to take on the higher-tiered classes and seize their perks. The F class uses its summoning powers in an all-out battle for school supremacy.

Kenji Inoue began his Baka to Test to Shōkanjū novels with illustrations by Yui Haga in 2007 under the Enterbrain label. The series' manga adaptation launched in Shōnen Ace magazine in 2009 and has received two spin-off manga. The light novels have also inspired two television anime series and a video anime project.

Funimation streamed the first and second television anime series. The North American anime distributor has also released both television anime as well as the video anime on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
