Finding Manga

Suggestion about "I'm looking for" section :
I saw many threads asking for the name of a certain manga in the "I'm looking for" section because someone forgot its title. How about pinning one thread that's created for finding the name of a certain manga? Like the random question attempt thread. In the first page alone there are 5 threads devoted to finding the name of a single manga/anime...
Thanks.

And there will be chaos in trying to reply to the person. It'll be difficult for the person to see which reply is meant for him. And it'll be hard to know when he actually found it

Not sure if this has been suggested ...But, is it possible for the advanced search option to encompass both categories and genres? For example, Genre: Shoujo and Romance; Category:Arranged Marriage;
Extended Option: Only show completely scanlated manga...

That has been already implemented - go to this page and check the required fields.

OK so first I like the category recommendations feature even in beta but because of it being limited to five titles there is a flaw. If a series has related series it will frequently recommend them since they tend to have similar categories but if I like a series enough to check out the recommendations I will already check out the related series and I believe many others do also, so it is redundant to have spaces taken up by them. Kindan no Koi wo Shiyou is a good example where two of the recommendations are sequels.
So I would suggest excluding related manga from the category recommendations and expanding it, a preset number like the current system probably wouldn't change much so maybe something like showing the recommendations by weight until it hits 1/3 or some other percent of the max weight which could be determined by either the heaviest recommendation or the system's max (whichever works best) and showing only the top five with the ability to show the rest like the normal recommendations feature.

Have you guys considered implementing "recommendations" feature that looks for other users with similar taste in manga and recommends titles they read and you didn't?
I think it would have much greater hit rate than the "similar category" recommendation. I love manga updates, I have been using it daily for years and this is the only feature I always lacked - good manga recommendation algorithm.
BTW, aside from being a manga lover and ex-scanlator I'm a programmer with strong algorithmic background and I'd be willing to help you if you wanted help. Please drop me a PM.

Though this isn't about the two search types you mentioned it is something I would very very much enjoy. When I look for manga to read I look at new releases. The problem with this is, to my knowledge the list can not be organized, trimmed or otherwise made easier to sift through the piles of junk I am not interested in.
Searching by genre is a start, but listing the results by most recent isn't an option and is instead only by YEAR. While knowing what year a manga or doujin was release on the site is all well and good, it once again brings the problem of holy crap that is a lot of junk to sift through to find what I am looking for.
So merging these two into a more accurate search by genre(or other category) and list results by day, or even the last month. something better than everything released this year in alphabetical order, that doesn't help me in the slightest.
As an example, I don't like Boys love manga/doujin. So I want to search for manga released in the month of august, 2012 and exclude the BL Genre (or yaoi or w/e it is). I could then browse every other recent release!
Is this possible? Can it be done now? I will admit this may currently be a search option I am unaware of. The structuring of the site and search options is rather cumbersome to me so I may be overlooking a more detailed section. Consolidating into an all in one advanced search feature would be very helpful, google can only do so much.
To follow up my post, an example of a very good consolidated search that helps users look for manga, games w/e on DLsite http://www.dlsite.com/eng/fs. Search by date, category, etc. For the tags feature on this site something similar to an image board tag search would be fine. Date range searches could help too.

I know what i like and its age gap. But to find them i have to advanced search for age gap, than SxT, than older female younger male, the reverse, and a few others. The only sugeestion i can think to make that better is being able to to disclude tags. That way i can search for age gap, than when i search for SxT disclude age gap so i know i havent already seen it on the last search.
The other suggestion and one even more important is on the search list include a date added column that can sort by so that i don't have to wade through the same manga every time i search. It takes a full day to search the list. Now i always find new ones, thats why i love this site but it those get tearsome. I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't remember every title of manga i've read so i click on the same one over and over.

A suggestion. Improve the search by categories to be able to search multiple categories. I'm not an expert on search engine programming but it doesn't seem like it would be an extreme amount of work to be able to do that. unless it is then forget it

If I got it right... You can search two or more categories at the same time, no? On the Advanced Search, you put the categories you want, one per line and you're able to match two in one search. Or isn't that what you're talking about?

I have 3 methods
Scan the first 100 or so in the Series Statistics in the Monthly, Three Month, and Six Month. Then click on the ones I'm not familiar with.
Do a Genres search and sort by rating.
Go to a manga I really like with 500-1000 readers, click the reading button, and scan the lists of those with a high % and a similar reading list length and see what they're reading that I'm not.
The last method could be improved to be more helpful. If a reader could see a list of others with similar reading lists (weighted to favor those with a high percent of the same number of titles and a similarly lengthed list vs those who's reading lists are 10x as long as yours and happen to include a high % from your list) Maybe also include those titles on your wish list when comparing others' reading lists.
Another way to sort other readers is if you made a list of them matching up their reviews vs yours making a list of readers who similarly rate titles.
Thanks for all the hard work maintaining and improving this GREAT site.

I usually don't search for manga on this site. I usually find one somewhere else, read it, and then search for it on here. I think any of those suggestions would be good especially the "readers who read this also like this." Lately I have been reading doujinshi and I have simply been searching by series and going through all of the doujinshi that come up under the search. This is limited to the series though.

I think it would be great if an "Order by rating" feature could be added to the advanced search.
Whenever I use the search feature to look for a new manga to read, I always find myself having to scroll through all the pages of the displayed results to find those with higher ratings. It would be so much more convenient if the results were already sorted. I see that there is an "order by rating" button at the bottom of the search, but it brings me to the rating-sorted version overall manga list rather than just sorting my category/genre specific search results.
If this is already an available feature, I'm sorry for not knowing of it. If that is so, could someone tell me how to use it? ^_^

Shonaiula, just click on the "Rating" heading to sort the results by the rating column.

So there really was this feature already! (feels a little silly) I have no idea why doing that never occurred to me, haha. Thanks for the help! 😀
