Sometimes it seems like you watch a movie or read a book or manga and it'll feel as though you're reading yourself on page. It happens to me all the time O.o My emotional memory is not very good but I can recall them based on the fictional characters I related to at the time I'm trying to remember(which makes me wonder whether those emotions were real or not, which is another subject lol)
When I watched Lilo and Stitch I felt like I was watching my childhood self on screen 🙂 This past year I've completely related to Nodame from Nodame Cantabile.
I've alternately related to Raskolnikov from Crime and Punishment, Esther from The Bell Jar and Mersault from The Stranger (don't worry I have not and won't kill anybody lol).
And it's strange, sometimes you'll listen to someone say they really relate to say, the Monster when you saw them as Frankenstein.

How about you? In the infinite world of fiction, which characters have appeared to you as if you were looking in a mirror?

oh, and sorry if I sounded cheesily over dramatic, I write and speak like that when I'm drowsy and when I try not to sound like that I end up over doing it and sounding like a robot 😲

Ok, this might sound weird coming from a female, but the character I related most to is definitely Sato from Welcome to the NHK. First of all his misguided obsessiveness is something I can totally relate to. Sometimes I find myself getting extremely motivated spending hours over hours on things any "normal" human being would consider a waste of time like a maniac, getting so caught up in it that I completely ignore physical needs like food or sleep. And then on the other hand getting totally lazy and unable to take care of things I`m supposed to do is also quite like me.
And the part about the bishoujo games... him trying to figure a way to "beat" those... it was like taking a look in the mirror and laughing about myself.
Additionally after I moved to my own place I spent quite some time as a NEET in the past.

Another character I related to was Haruhi Suzumiya... excentric behaviour, crazy hair, sometimes bossy attitude, ignoring the surroundings, having fun alienating people... yep, thats a part of me i can`t deny XD

Overall I love relating to characters but I also enjoy reading about leads that are nothing like me.

Shaun from Shaun of the Dead. Normal guy just drifting through life who doesn't really want anything more than to hang with his girl and have an occasional drink with friends.

I relate an awfully lot to Ciel from Kuroshitsuji, except not as influential and spoiled as he is. Also to the protagonist in Nowhere Boy and Ma-Ri from Orange Marmalade.

i can relate 100% to the main character(punpun) from oyasumi punpun and almost all characters from river's edge which is why they both hold a special place in my heart.
in what aspects?hmm there's something about the characters which is...idk? its just soo me(the wording is terrible,i know, but i dont know how to explain)

there's something about punpun...the way he feels this passive sort of self-disgust...the way he thinks...the way he views people around him...his loneliness albeit he has a lot of people around him....thats me

and about river's edge; the way the characters were thinking deeply and how they were misunderstood, twisted and independent....again, it felt like me.

Oh, yes Sato. Definitely, though far less manic. Joker from Kuroshitsuji... idk exactly how to say it but I nver exactly loved his character or felt much in the any of sadness when he died (and I'm definitely not funny ) but his devotion to something that never existed and giving everything to maintain it. Shuu from Kuragehime, just the way he strives to maintain a semblance of peace among his family. Though I'm much less kind than these characters.
