Hi! In the translation of a number of works, some publishers or localization teams have decided to "westernize" names. So, just creating a thread for those who'd like to know the characters' original names. Personally, I like how it enhances story (see the Sailor Moon example below), but I know it's also a good way to find that sweet, sweet international community of fanart 😀 and participate in wider fandoms.

To avoid being overwhelming, I'm mostly focusing on main characters. Here's a few of my favorites and a few I've stumbled across (spelling's may vary):

Cardcaptor Sakura: Sakura (no change), Li Syaoran (Li is his family name), Yukito, Touya
Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon: Usagi, Mamoru (literally means "protect"—yes, he do 😀), Ami, Rei, Makoto, Minako
Super Secret: Eunho, Gyeonwo, Seungwoo
Wild City: Jin Woo, Tae Ho
Fools (Yeongha): Kwon Eungi, Choi Jeongwoo
The 10 Years I loved you the most: He Zhishu, Jiang Wenxu
Mamma Mian (Mother, I'm Sorry): Gong Hyochan, Geum-ok
A Nonsense Relationship: Youngjin, Sanghyun, Hoyeon
Walk on Water: Park Yeowoon (in one of the early panels, the translators changed the character's name, but not the email address with his initials 😉)
Talk to Me Tenderly: Ki Youngha, Seonnam, Shin Eunsung, Woon

Masked Woman: Eom Boran, Kwon Sehu, Huse (submitted by Glowtoads)

It would be great to see more names added to this thread, and I'll try to update this top post with them as well! If this list continues to grow, I'll separate titles by genre to make finding them easier 🙂. Thank you!

In Masked Woman, Eom Boran becomes Viola Lim, and Kwon Sehu becomes Harrison Kwon. The character Sehu inspires also changes from Huse to Harry.
