I have chosen , Tiffany K. Rose, Sakura Hanamaki, and Sakurako. Its hard because people tell me I cannot choose a Japanese pseudonym because of my ethnic background, race etc. which is kindof stupid (well I think so) and becuase I love all of them. Sakurako is actually used by another artist so I'm not so sure on that one.

Can you tell me which one I should stick with? I'd love your opinion.

I chose a pen name too
i think its a great idea, of course i chose a pen name so i wont have readers discriminate or judge my work by my race being that im american.

unfortunately i cant tell you what my pen name is... ITS STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL.

but i can tell you that it was coined from an old and very famous manga.
thats how i chose my pen name
i figure readers will be attracted to someone with such a well known name.

for example if i were to name myself "Pika2"
readers would see that name sticks out, and is reminiscent of pokemon so they would pick it up.

another way to chose a pen name is by the style that you draw, or the way you tell your stories.
for example you might name yourself "pika2" because your art and styles are action/fantasy/children, and pokemon drew that sort if audience in.

another cool way is just a cool word that describes you.
like if you are reading manga all the time, "Mangaholic" would probably catch peoples attention and feel like its a cool name.

also you can distort the letters in your original name
IDK if your name is Tiffany K. Rose but if it is, you can change it to

"T.funky Rose" or "TK Rose"

(this is just a few various ways i think could help you think of a clever Pen name.

enjoy!! Tell me what you chose, so when we become famous we can meet each other in person! biggrin haha

Yep.

Nondescript is better. If you pick a Japanese name without being Japanese, you're going to gather a rather unpleasant image for yourself- that's just a fact regardless of whether or not you think it's appropriate. Obviously, you can do whatever you want, but in the same position I would avoid picking anything overtly controversial and let my work craft a reputation rather than a name.

I like Sakura Hanamaki because it has 'Sakura' which is my favorite Japanese name and 'Hanamaki' a prefecture in Japan. And Tiffany K. Rose I just made up on a whim, (I like roses and the name 'Tiffany' and K. is my actual middle intitial.)

Please tell me your pseudonym. But I don't mind if you don't want to.

yeh im sorry but i take my title too seriously lol
too be honest im probably going to end up in korea trying to get into manhwa, but anyways

I think think if you had an actual reason for naming yourself Sakura Hanamaki, than it would have been cool and i wouldve went with that one

but since sakura means cherry blossum and rose is a flower i just think its funny how both the names you chose relate to flowers hehe

but i think i would say Tiffany K. Rose

or i would say combine the names, see if you get something you can like?

hows about Sakura K Rose, Tiffany K Sakura

Tiffany K. Sakubara (Sakura + Bara {Bara means Rose})

idk i'm just trying to help lol

But sakuba means farm. Well, I guess "sakubara" could sort of translate to "rose harvest" ... kind of ... not really.

I personally never publish with a penname because I love attention, but if you want to use one, don't try to be all flashy. You'll only end up seeming silly. Tiffany K. Rose is a good name if you're looking to write paperback romances. Sakura Hanamaki is a fine name if you're publishing in Japan and want to keep your gaijin-ness on the down low. Outside of those situations you'd probably be better off using your initials and spending more time thinking about what you're going to write.

i think that the pen name should be given a good amount of time to think of , i say dont rush it though, it will come to you in given time.
also i think a flashy name wouldn't make you think your silly
i think if a name stands out, of course its going to catch attention and attention leads to interest and thats what you want!!

just my opinion

Sakubara could mean a couple of things. Depending on the characters you use. Saku could also mean 'to bloom'.

I agree that it shouldn't be too flashy, but go with whatever you feel is right.

This has nothing to do with your candidate list of pen names
butIi always find it amusing to use the anagram of my real name as pen name.

as per example, my anagram is Hespia Klarerin cool

I'll probably just end up using my nickname I got back in seventh grade as my pen name. I think the best way to choose a pen name is to pick a name that will be special to you somehow. smile

Personally I think Tiffany K Rose since I believe choosing a Japanese name if your not Japanese may turn people away from your stories, however if you are publishing in Japan and aren't planning to make public apperances as an author then it may be wise to hide your ethnicity behind a Japanese name.

I suppose it depends on why you want a penname in the first place. I'm writing a series of novels and I write poetry under a pen name but that is because I'm pursuing a career as a research scientist and want to be taken seriously in both worlds. My pen name is a mixture of family member's names so it's very personal to me.
