I'm new to these forums and I just wanted to ask, do you think it is extremely cliche to want to go to Japan just because you read manga? I don't know, ever since I started reading manga I really wanted to visit there. I really want to see the cherry blossoms =). But even so I have a feeling that it is very cliche. Just want to know everyones opinion. Oh and is learning japanese also cliche?

I have the same thoughts as you.. After reading manga & watching anime, i was intrigued by the japanese culture & everything japanese. wanting to visit japan & learning japanese after reading manga is very normal i guess.. so IMO i guess its cliche 😕

Hell no, totally reasonable.

Why, no...
I guess it happens a lot that manga readers dream of going to Japan at least once, but why would it necessarily be cliché? If you have a lot of interest in manga, then at least some interest for Japan generally ensues...

Possibly.

I'm also interested in Japanese culture and want to go visit and sight seeing. I was going to start learning Japanese last summer but my plans had changed so I have to put it off.

I also want to visit Japan at some point, but mainly for reasons unrelated to manga (although they'd certainly be an area of interest once I get there). The cherry blossoms have always sounded like a sight worth seeing to me as well.

Whether or not my interest in Japanese culture started with manga is something I couldn't say for certain, however.

I also wanted to learn Japanese, and I got pretty far once. There is a site that is very good, and the first few lessons are free. Its called Textfugu ([http://www.tofugu.com/textfugu-by-tofugu/], and it is awesome for learning Japanese if anyone is interested. It was very interesting and easy to learn from. I don't know I just really wanted to read manga in the language that it's originally written in.

Personally I think it truly is cliche. I'm probably one of the few people that has read manga and watched anime and not had any intention or desire to go to Japan. Although I think that has more to do with the fact that I don't even like leaving my house much less visiting another country.

Yes, it's cliche - but not anything to be ashamed about.

The more you learn about a place--especially through the "eyes" of those who live there (everything's rose-coloured)--the more inclined you'd be to visit.
I want to visit Japan too, not wholly due to anime/manga. But I also want to visit Ireland because of family stories from my relatives, and of course, the amazing photos 🙂
It's not "cliche" at all; just very natural, actually!

If everything was in katakana/hiragana I would have gone long ago...
Unfortunately I had too much trouble with Kanji lol.

Lol, yea, it's probably a little cliche, but completely understandable.

I want to visit Japan but it doesn't have anything to do with manga/anime. It's just one of the places on the list of my travel destinations. Also I won't do anything related to manga/anime there, I am pretty sure.
