Is Hajime no Ippo good if I hate boxing?

I strongly dislike boxing in real life, but Hajime no Ippo seems to be very popular. Since the theme for the manga convention I'll be going to soon is sports, it's probable that this manga will appear many times. So these days I'm reading many sports manga that I haven't already read and catching up on some others (Slam Dunk, Crimson Hero, Prince of tennis...). I was wondering whether Hajime no Ippo is good and worth reading even if somebody hates boxing?

Hi, I don't think I can tell you whether you will like it or not, but personally I don't really like any sports at all and such, but I enjoy all sports manga as long as they are good.
However I do not feel as strongly as to disliking, which is why it comes back to this: I can't guarantee that you won't hate it.
But as a manga itself, Hajime no Ippo is about a boy who found a goal in life and an inspiration, something that he lacked at first. Through the manga he developed personality wise as well as his outlook on life and eventually become a man.
I would say that anyone who is dreaming of having, or has a goal and ambition in life would find the manga good as it's not only about boxing, but also the difficulties in life itself that everyone will go through, and how to overcome them.
Oops, sorry I seem like I'm preaching. 😛 But you can try it out, and if it doesn't suit your taste you can drop it whenever.

Personally, its the funniest manga I've read.
There's probably more time spent training then boxing.
There's very little romance.
Just incase you don't know, its over a thousand chapters long and ongoing.
I'd recommend it. Its a good read.

I don't much like boxing either, not that I hate it though, but I do like Hajime no Ippo. There is a lot in it if you just like sports and comedy manga. So even if you dislike boxing itself you might still like the series. At least give it a go, read a couple volumes and see how you feel.
Actually, it's kind of like Hikaru no Go. Even if you have absolutely no interest in igo, the manga is still very interesting.

It's popular, but if you ever plan to join the fanbase, be prepared for pages upon pages of people whining about how the manga-ka hasn't written a reasonable fight in like five years.

i personally think boxing in real life mostly looks kind of silly i still love Hajime no ippo so you can probably enjoy it even if you hate boxing in real life.
but as said before youll have to give it a try to know.

No it isnt... even when it can be one or 2 vols talking about a situation or life troubles it will end up in a boxing match and some matches last at least 2 vols, so it will be kind of hard for someone who doesnt like boxing BUT! heres the catch if u start reading it U may end up liking the kind of boxing they do in the manga 😛 so... just give it a try.

I used to hate boxing too.. until I watched Ippo. I used to think boxing was just mindless fighting, just dumb and violent, but ippo really shows you another perspective of how to look at it. Just like with rocky, the fights arent always the main point. Before the fights, theres actually a lot of good story. Also, seeing how someone very week, becomes so strong, also justifies it. He doesnt just wanna hit people, but he actually has a very good reason for everything. I recommend either watch the anime, or read the manga. Both are great.
