When a person uses quotation marks, they usually mean to show they are quoting another person's words. The person quoted should not use that against them to get their way. If said word is an act, it's also hypocritical to say you're tired of it if you do it as well. This brings me to my question. If someone has a word in quotation marks and has also quoted where someone has used that word, aren't you going to realize they are going with that person's word choice? I would like anyone to give me an answer to that.

Sometimes people may interpret the same line of text differently. Therefore, misunderstandings can occur. Personally, I try to avoid that by taking into considerations those different interpretations and choose the best one to fit the situation, but most people just post without thinking much.

As for using quotes against people, that's usually a case of twisting words to your favor rather than a simple misunderstanding. In other words, it is intentionally taking advantage of the fact that there are different interpretations to a certain line in order to change the meaning from what was originally intended into something in your favor.

An example is when person A is responding to a whole paragraph in general, and person B picks out a line or two from it that are a little weak to try to counter them, even if everything else by person A is legitimate. It is selective arguments based on the strong bias of person B.

Another example is when person A makes a joke or something else that most people would find obvious, but person B decides to interpret it as is. Unfortunately, to avoid misunderstandings of this type, it requires that no joking or sarcasm are used... which kind of limits expression.

There are more situations, but I'm still half asleep and can't think anymore... and I think I already wrote a pretty extensive explanation...

In short, you would be deliberatly misinterpretting something to have your way.

words aren´t like numbers, meaning that one word does have more than one meaning or sense in which they can be used, it´s even more complex in the case of speech, as words have relation with other words. In the case of quotes, that are certain sentences that are extracted from their context extra knowledge about that context is necessary for their correct use.
Personally i think words carry the sense whoever used them had given to them, but that sense isn´t always understood and sometimes as cheesestix said words are given diferent meaning or are used in other way to use them against the one who originally used them. That is why it´s easier to talk with friends, people you know well, since you know what they are meaning when they use certain words, and it´s easy to misunderstand people you don´t know.
