ok, i thought slash was boyxboy/girlxgirl fanfiction. so why, if you click on it in the categories section, does it turn up legitimate mangas with real authors? am i wrong about what slash is or something?

Your about half-way right, slash is mostly stuff like Nabari No Ou (Miharu and Yoite) or Ouran Koukou Host Club (Honey and Mori) where it's not labeled as shounen-ai but there could be subtle hints here and there. But people love to "slash" plenty that aren't shounen-ai or slash origanily, like Bleach, you can find plenty of shounen-ai and yaoi dj's. 😀 So it's not only fanfiction, there are plenty of manga's that are slashers~

No... I don't think you're wrong. But I think it's just a another confusing (and not very good) way of saying 'Subtext' since it looks like a lot of the titles were also in the Subtext thread.

So in theory, if people started tagging series as 'Slash' because it was 'slashable,' you might as well tag EVERY series here because, really, you could say every series has at least some subtext. -_-
Which is why I'd like to suggest a removal of that tag if possible?

Slash is a fan term for male/male (femslash for female/female).

You might have been confused because slash is the more common name for homosexual media (art/writing/etc) instead of yoai, outside of Japan.

Slash can refer to either fan-made or the official author's intended pairing.

Yeah, "subtext" or perhaps "slashy" would probably be a better term than "slash." (Maybe we can see if it could be changed?) I'm not too worried about it being misused, though -- if the tag shows up on manga that aren't legitimately slashy, they'll get voted down. At the very least, a category tag for manga with liberal amounts of gay subtext is legitimate, I think (enough of that sort of manga certainly exist!).

Depends on who you talk to. Some fandom people define slash as non-canon homosexual parings, so a canon m/m or f/f pairing wouldn't be considered slash.
