Nostalgia vs. Reason

Today, I started getting nostalgic about cartoons I loved as a kid, so I went through the thread, "Your Favorite Childhood Cartoons." Then, I found this quote I wrote way back then:
Quote from kana503
I don't think I would enjoy these series as much since my standards in animation, voice actors, and plot are higher now that I'm more mature.
I was wrong.
I started watching clips of Batman Beyond, Mummies Alive, and Gargoyles...and I still love those cartoons. There are some serious flaws in all of those cartoons I watched as a kid, but I could care less. There had to be something pretty awful for me to hate something from my childhood (i.e. The voice acting from the dub of Sailor Moon).
My brother loved Michael Bay's Transformers until he saw the first movie a second time and realized that he hated it.
So, I was just wondering if other people are experiencing the same thing?

There's the saying "never meet your heroes."
While I think that holds true for the vast majority of things, there are a very few that can still be enjoyed.

this is actually quite untrue for me... because whenever i watch an old favorite of mine, like for example Spongebob or the Power Puff Girls or just about anything cartoony.. there's this brand new aspect that opens before me, one that i have never actually seen or realized before when i was younger .. except for the one exception that is Fushigi Yuugi, but this is not the place for me to rant about that manga its lack common sense. > 🙁
oh please do click this!
The sweeter the apple, the higher the branch. The quieter the fart, the nastier the smell.
GUESS WHO??
Sometimes I love nostalgia, like when I'm talking with friends or family about funny or stupid stuff we did in the past. The rest of the time I hate it. Most people I know are too obsessed with nostalgia. Especially annoying because most of them are in their late teens - early twenties. It wasn't that long ago, stop acting like it was WW2 or something.

Oh, that's a really good quote, Sagaris. I think there are a lot of shows that can still be loved today though. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Seinfield will always have those classic moments, and I will always think back about Recess fondly.

Yeah, I'm always pleasantly surprised when I watching something again and catch a certain nuance that changes everything. I think shows with multiple layers of intelligence are those that can survive time the best.
Haha, I'm guilty of that one, Turbophoenix. Although, I think people mature a lot when they're in their early twenties. Just think about the gap in maturity between a freshman in high school and a sophomore in college. I'll admit it, I was a huge awkward dork when I was 14 years old. I think younger people get nostalgic because they have experienced a large change in life. Now, what really weirds me out is when people don't remember things from my childhood. No one seems to remember the re-runs of Matlock anymore, and that just makes me feel old (even though I'm really young).
Nostalgia is tricky & unreliable, and preferably I'd like to spend as little time wallowing in it as possible. :c It clouds my judgment.
