You know how some of the characters like the other ones of the zodiac. I was thinking it might be wierd and/or indecent, because wouldnt it be like marrying ur cousin or something. I dont know, thats what i think.....
So question. Are they somehow related like cousins, or something else? Whats your thought?
And if the author said something let me know :]

I always had the impression that 'cousin' was WAAAAAY back in the lineage, and just a convenient way to reference each other to ousiders not within the know in the Sohma family. I don't think any of them are literal cousins. (Well, except Yuki and Ayame being brothers.)

I think they are really, really distant cousins. It would be perfectly legal and acceptable for them to get married.

Hmm I think they aren't super super distant maybe like 3rd or 4th cousins. Otherwise the sohma house would just be massive. But maybe it was (I mean 3 or 4 is pretty large)

There is a possibility that they aren't all really related and that they only say they are related and have the same last name because of being a zodiac member. If that's not the case and they are literally all cousins then they probably think it's all right to marry each other because it would keep the secret in the family and that would keep Akito happy. If I find any Ultra Special Blah Blah Blahs from Natsuki Takaya(author) that say anything about it I'll let you know.

Actually I always got the impression that they were cousins... After all, Yuki introduced Kyo as his cousin in the 1st volume. But it was never made clear how their parents are connected to each other and the sohma family is pretty big (their numbers are mentioned in that volume where the inner and outer quarters of the Sohma estate were explained) My guess would be that they are not direct cousins, but not that distant either?

We're talking about a curse that has been around for literally centuries: generations upon generations. The family really IS that big. The likelihood that they're closely related (with the exception of Ayame and Yuki) is really small. That's why I think the word "cousin" was just a convenience for outsiders. At some level they are "cousins" because they do all belong to the same family, but none of the branches are close to each other.

Most families don't wind up keeping track of each other as well as the Sohmas have had to over the generations. The Sohmas were sort of forced to because of the curse.
