Well, there are a lot of ways to start a story. I don't know your story so I can't say anything that I think will be good for yours specifically but I can give you some ideas.
You could do that thing where you go into a future part of the story and suck your readers in then go back to the present. Something that makes them go, "Oh, this sounds like quite an interesting story! I wonder that occured to make this happen!" 😀
Or you could do a flashback thing. Where you show something that happened a while ago that is going to affect how things happen now. Then they go, "Oh my goodness. That looks bad. I wonder what will happen now... I'm stoked to learn." And yes, I probably will do the quote on the next one too because I'm bored. 😛
Or you could do the normal way where you just introduce the story. Just from experience I'm going to say your writing about a normal kid who goes superpower. I don't really know what your writing but just as an example... So he's/she's going to school or something then something amazing happens and it turns all fantasy amazing. Then the readers like. "Oh my god! I go to school too! This character and I are so similar! We can relate! That could be me one day! I could be heading to school and get attacked by a demon and save myself with superpowers but right when I'm about to get killed a super hot demon saves me and we fall in love! Because he/she didn't think it would happen either! Yay Me! I should start walking to school from now on! Thank you story! You changed my life!" Yes, I could go on, but I won't.
But, yeah, I could probably give you more ideas if I didn't have to be so general. You should probably add more detail. Just try to get past the beginning so you can focus on the story, then the ideas will flow. It doesn't have to be an amazingly good intro. Just make it so the readers don't leave as soon as they start reading. Make it readable until you get to the good stuff. Yeah... Ok. 😐 I'm done... That was fucking long...
The way I do it is that I begin with a very important part of the story. Something that seems not important at all.
For example, if I was writing a love story, I would start out by introducing the two people who will fall in love. My "I" or the main character will be doing a normal everyday thing like walking home from school. So it'll go a little like this:
"I walked out of the front gates with my head spinning. My decision to cram for the Calculus test didn't turn out the way I had wanted. Right now, I just wanted to go home and crash. Looking down the street for an upcoming bus but there was none, I decided to walk instead. Walking home wasn't such a big deal. [And then I'd ramble a little about something here]. Turning the last corner, I almost got ran over by a biker. Surprised by his sudden appearance, I dropped all my books and he swerved into the nearby fire hydrant..."
And that's that our characters have met. It's up to the author now to decide what you want them to do at this point.
I've started a story before with this straight to the point, here you go, right in the face kind of beginning. This way it catches the readers attention better. It doesn't go around talking about stuff that doesn't really matter to the general idea of the story.
You could also start with an introduction to the main character. Like a "I'm so and so years old. I live with this person and I like to do this during my spare time. And I...etc." Do you see how something like this wouldn't be AS interesting as the first one. It's informational but these kinds of introductions can be worked into the story itself rather than given.
The last way I know how to start a story would be to give background information. Since you are writing a fantasy, I suggest this one but it's a little difficult. D:
Since it is fantasy, there will be things in the story that the reader won't understand. Just give a general idea about what you're going to be talking about in the story.
Say for example you're writing about pixies. You can start with a small visual with pixies flying around and whatnot. Or you could do a history or as the person above suggested a "flashback". What are pixies? Where do they come from? What's going on?
Understand that this is a little like the "I am..." beginning. It's not very exciting, so try to keep it short before your readers decide that it's boring or that they don't like it.
That's about all I can really suggest to you at the moment. I don't know what you've already tired so I don't know if what I've told you is something you haven't tried before. If you have any questions, feel free to pm me. I LOVE Literature. (:
