Hi. I'm Beeta.

I am generally a lurker here and think I've only posted once before. I hope to contribute more, as this is a great site. I am sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find the answers in my Forum Search. Do you sometimes have to go back and read chapters of a manga that hasn't been updated in while?

There have been a few Manga I started reading, like Ingenuo, that are not fully scanlated, and I have put them hold for now because I hate getting into the story again and being left at a cliffhanger. I haven't read any of the chapters updated after September because the next update happened when school started (I'm an adult going back for more school). There haven't been any more updates since February. I'm also reading Ryou by Ueda Rinko, which hasn't updated a lot. At first, there were several chapters uploaded at a time, then fewer and fewer came.

I know how hard the scanlators work; I don't even mind so much the once- a-month updates if a few chapters are posted. It's only when a manga hasn't been updated for 9 months, even a year or more, that it becomes frustrating. For some stories, I have to go back a few chapters, maybe a volume or two to remember what I've previously read or remind myself some details on a secondary character.

Does this happen to anyone else? I pride myself on having a really good memory, and this is annoying! 😕

I'm curious if this causes anyone to read only completely scanlated/published manga, or if like me, it depends on the story?

I feel you.
It's the same with me, there are a few mangas that i've followed almost religiously only for the chapters to stop coming out not for several weeks, but for months.
It gets a bit frustrating at times and that's why i won't read any manga that isn't finished, except for the ones i'm reading already. And if i continue those and wait it's because of the story. I still have to go back a few chapters sometimes, but since i'm reading over 20 manga at the same time i reckon it's only natural.

When a series isn't updated in a long time, I actually forget I was reading it in the first place. Then when it gets updated and I see that little icon next to it's name saying I'm reading it, I often go "Wtf is that manga? And when did I start reading that?"

I hardly ever remember the names. I remember everything once I click on the link though 🤣

Sometimes I go back and re-read the chapter before, depends if I remember anything from the story, or what's happening at that moment.

I'm curious if this causes anyone to read only completely scanlated/published manga, or if like me, it depends on the story?

No the lack of updates doesn't stop me. Sure it can be frustrating, but I move on and start reading something else. I'm just glad I have something to read.

yes it has happened to me as well. Usually what I do is that if a few chapters are out like 3 or 4 etc then i read them if i find it really interesting then i read them even if last chapter was out like months ago and sometimes it does get updated after a long long while and i only have to read like what 3 chapters again to refresh my memories. Also i have noticed that sometimes series fail to be updated on this site even though there have been new chapters out and that is usually for mangas that had not been scanlated for a long time and then there is the fact that if the manga gets licensed then scanlators will most likely stop scanlating since you can "buy" it in english now.

Anywayss if you find a manga you really really like you could appeal to one of the scanlating websites to take it up and sometimes they do take it up if they find it to be interesting..

Hmm, if the manga hasn't been updated for a year/has been put on hiatus by scanning groups and only has a few chapters (less than 20) I don't read it because I don't see the point; I'm going to want to read the other chapters but they're not going to be scanslated so I can't which frustrates me.
Sometimes I have to re-read the whole series if it hasn't been updated for a while, but that's only if its mediocore and hasn't stuck in my memory. Othertimes I just have to read the previous chapter to get back into the swing of things
