So like, this might seem like a stupid question but I still wanted to talk about it because it's been in my mind lately. I'm wondering if series that are from China/Japan/Korea (and maybe Indonesia/Thailand/Vietnam) but was originally published in English, it's an OEL, right?

Like for example if a webtoon is Chinese (meaning it has China as its country of origin) but was originally published in English somewhere, should they still be classified on Baka-Updates as "OEL" and not "Manhua"? (in the "Type" field)

Yeah I'm still confused about this too. What if the story is publish English first then retranslated to original language? ex. it was under author A, but they came from japan and has a style like a manga. how would we categorize it? since they have the same style and use the genre from japan. I've search to a lot of forum and still don't understand this. If manhwa and manhua is aloud here, why does OEL don't? (gen question)

It's based on what language it was first published in. So, for instance, Youn In-wan, who is Korean, has had his work labeled either "manga" or "manhwa" depending on whether it was first serialized in Japan or Korea.

The author's original country of origin has nothing to do with the work they publish, database-wise. I mean, Kamiya Yuu is from Brazil, and I don't think anyone would argue that his work isn't "manga" (since they are still published in Japan). There are also Japanese mangaka who publish comics in esoteric styles, e.g. Ono Natsume, panpanya, Fujiwara Kamui, etc. So "art style" has nothing to do with it.

Also, OELs are allowed on the site, but they have to be physically published. This is probably to prevent the database from being overwhelmed with a deluge of western webcomics with a tenuous relationship to manga.

Thanks for this, so i have to wait for it to be publish then. I have ask a mod recently, so i'll wait for there response to make sure i don't violate any guidelines. I want to add several stories that i think is quite known like "i love yoo" but not sure if i can add them since i read the FAQ.
