Hope this thread won't be condemmed to failure>.<

Anyway...
Some manga have bad translations, that even I can spot right away~
So, I have 2 questions: ( it doesn't have to be from the same manga...)
1)What manga has the worst translation ?
2)What is the funniest thing that wrong translation made? (phrase gone wrong, he turned into she etc...)

I wonder how many people pay attention to that stuff, and actualy remember it... And maybe it's not nice towards the people who translate it...

Well, I'll give it a try... It can always be locked.. Deleted...

Wost translations- Koori no Mamono no Monogatari
And Bara no Tameni
2 good manga, with lousy tranlation...

Haha... Koori isn't so bad. Sure, the English is a bit... wonky but at least the meanings are there. I've actually seen manga where the translations were likely produced by slapping the original sentences into Babelfish or Google Translate.

It was some shounen series, I think... I don't remember anymore. 🙂

Quote from NightSwan

1)What manga has the worst translation ?

There's an old version of Chobits bouncing around that's horrible-screwed up non-natural syntax all over the place, perfect example of why fluent English speaking proofreaders are a must for any good English translations.

Some LQ scans of Tokyo Crazy Paradise and Love Hina are half Japanese-which begs the question of "are they even translations?" (The English on those generally isn't so great either.)

I constantly gripe about the psuedo-hipster awfulness that is the Viz Nana translations. Perfect example of the difficulty of trying to translate slang and have it convey the same meaning.

2)What is the funniest thing that wrong translation made? (phrase gone wrong, he turned into she etc...)

I've seen gender swaps (he-she/his-her) in all sorts of translations-everything from really good ones to atrocious ones. It creates problems in gender benders, 'cause a couple of times I've been totally confused as to whether the speaker knows the cross-dressing char's real gender.

The make me laugh a bit when I see them, but it doesn't bother me that much, mainly because cough it's free.

'cept when it's the licensed American version. I buy the TokyoPop Nosatsu Junkie releases and some times what I'm reading sounds so off/contradictory/inconsistent that I want a scan to cross reference (unfortunately the scans for everything 'cept the 1st chap are the TP releases). That's the major problem with doing translations without having the whole text-it could sound find for that chapter/volume and then be completely wrong when you've got a couple of more.
