I'm sure everyone has something they just can't digest. If anything, in my case, I've never been a huge fan of horror things (not just mangas but anything, really) but I can still read them if it picks my interest. I'm not talking about straight up genres by the way, just anything you'd categorise as "genre", like maybe you hate superhero or high school mangas.

Recently I've been seeing a lot of romance/slice of life mangas which are about two people in love with each other, but every time the whole thing is almost entirely about how they're hesitating to express their feelings and their relationships not advancing a single bit. Something like Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san to quote a famous one but I think I mostly noticed shoujo ai mangas doing this. I honestly got burned out reading this type of mangas with no progress whatsoever and with often the manga trying to make you believe "the next chapter will be the one!!!". I think they're pretty easy to spot though so I just stopped reading them all together. In my opinion they really lack something to keep you going, I like slices of life but the ones I enjoyed had a plot or a reason to be aside from a romance which doesn't progress, like Bonnouji which I really appreciated.

I'm very curious to know what you guys don't like or never managed to get into, maybe someone can turn it into your new favourite genre!

Oh, the opposite of me. I really like horror for the thrill it gives! But I'm sad that there aren't many manga that focus on pure ghost/atmospheric jumpscares like Zashiki Onna, PTSD Radio. Mostly with violent tendencies, which I never understood why horror always had to involve brutally killing each other: Kichikujima, Battle Royale. I barely remember what happened in the story and got traumatized in the end. I don't think I will ever go back to this hellish experience again.

Some of the trope you mentioned—coincidentally, that's something I don't like either. I really liked it when I first read Karakai Jouzo Takagi-san. It's cute, but my excitement dries up as time goes on and the longer the manga continue without direction and overused tricks. This also applies to Komi-san wa Komyushou desu as well. In my case, this liking turned into a huge dislike. Just like you eat the same food every day, the appetite is no longer there. I might get over the boredom while reading something else, but really, I've tried it and it's still the same.

Next, I’m never been a big fan of angst. It feels like almost every day is me vs my online otaku friends who like shoujo with drama. Haha not in a serious argument anyway. It just… I think a lot of the elements in it—that I've come across, were executed in a less satisfying (aka bad writing, for the sake of spice things up). One of the lowest probably Vampire Knight. I personally don’t like it. Not that I prefer good ending every time, it's the matter of sympathizing with every characters in it and why. It can't flow naturally. But Piece is exceptional and very underrated. I rarely give the highest 10/10 rating in this kind of theme.

As a free-spirited youngster, I like romance, I like handsome characters, but I don't like harem. I get easily cringed there. I'm fine if it's mixed with comedy because my focus in something else, but fully romance, ehh...

Last, I wanted to add anything related to Isekai Manhwa but it's been crossed off on my dislike list for a while. I'm still adjusting now tho, to princess-like stories in a made-up kingdom. Whenever I come across clearly copypaste, modern people reincarnated into baby bodies and acting dumb, silly narrations--thank you, next.

I don't like shotacon and lolicon, and if it is in combination with hentai/adult/yaoi or yuri then it starts to become troublesome. I always avoid them.

I dislike tragedy. Certainly if I'm not in the mood for tearjerker.

I don't like manga from tragedy, drama, sports, school life and mecha genres. But it's not that I avoid these at all costs, I just can't get into them or they bore me quickly.

The genres I can't stand no matter what are ecchi, harem and gore, they hit my emotions too hard. In the case of ecchi and harem cringe and second hand embarrassment are too strong for me. Gore on the other hand triggers my hematophobia and makes me feel really uncomfortable.

I can't do horror in any format. Even as an adult it will still give me nightmares. I have a particular weakness against zombies. I can handle suspenseful mystery but not horror.

The only other category I try to stay away from is magical girl. Hate me if you want, but I can't get into things like Sailor Moon or Card Captor Sakura.

I have found that I prefer mech and action as anime rather than manga. It makes the action easier to follow. That applies to music stories as well. It just makes it better if you can hear them.

The romance tropes I dislike are too much age gap and incest. I also cannot get loving a robot. AI and sentience aside, it's still a machine.

I do not quite like shoujo, I don't know why I'm just really not interested with it. Maybe because the romance lol (which I think is boring). In middle school, my friend read a shoujo manga and I tried to read it too, but I couldn't find any excitement from the story.

Other than shoujo, they're shota/loli, josei, mecha, GL, ecchi, harem, and sports. I read one horror manga back in the day, it wasn't that scary ('cause I love horror) but beside that I never read any other horror manga.

P.S.: I dislike girls with "abnormal" boobs size, normal size is better.

I don't like gender bender. I don't care if a girl wears guys clothes and play basketball or something and somehow finds love in there. Just make a BL instead of that kind of stupid story.
Also not into harem. It's just not my cup of tea.

Oh yeah I forgot about the illegal stuff, whenever there's anything of the like related to kids I just cringe very hard and most likely stop reading. I haven't seen anything like that in a long while though, maybe because I stopped reading the kind of mangas where you're the most likely to see that or because modern mangas are more sensitive towards protecting the youths?

Now maybe they should move on to college students for all their ecchi stuff.

I don't dislike shoujo mangas but I feel like a lot of shoujos magazines don't have the same level of professionalism and the narration/pacing is often all over the place, it's hard to understand, follow, etc. so I usually don't enjoy reading them. I'm not sure how to describe the exact problem, maybe I'm wrong in this regard. I've read and enjoyed some shoujos though.

I tried reading Zashiki Onna, it was pretty cool and creepy! I started the second one too but haven't read much yet. It's interesting reading some horror sometimes I guess.

Anything in the ‘woman falls in love with rapist/abuser’ category. Other than that I feel like I’m pretty equal opportunity.

Glad to know you liked it as well!! It is indeed, and still the creepiest manga I have ever found. Every time I reread it, I already know how it's going to be but I still feel restless looking at that woman 😂 Mochizuki Minetaro's other work Dragon Head is just as crazy.

Most echi and harem , I mean there's tones of nice mangas (or al least with good premises) that devolve because of them. I mean [m]Mushoku Tensei[/m] for example, is great, has lots of original stuff and a hard magic system, decent conclusion..., but I think it would've been so much better without them , I mean around the middle or the novel it's down right terrible, it it weren't for the time travel tag and the recommendation on a friend I would've dropped it at the start.

Probably mangas or comics with OP MCs that pretend to be working hard.

They would keep getting stronger and every other arc would have them “struggling” then getting stronger as if it was a challenge. Then the supporting cast would drool at how strong said MC is.

Can’t stand harem/reverse harem, also loli and shotacon. The latter is easy to avoid imo but many mangas that are harem get recommended a lot which is a bummer.

Any run of the mill iyashikei with a long title that is bound to be forgettable. A genre I avoid with my entire life. Also most harem with the exceptions of Love Hina or OHSHC perhaps.
